Happy Sunday night. I hope you all had a fabulous weekend. For me.... I'm still avoiding mirrors and exit the house in a sombrero :-)
Today's sketch is from the Stamping411 design divas.... whom I still thank for making my card one of their faves last week! It's a great sketch again this week - and I did two different cards with it. I really wanted to use the Berry Christmas set again from the Holiday Mini. I made a card a couple of weeks ago using the same stamp set and thought that this layout lent itself to another use of the set.
Here's the sketch. I thought it was another flexible sketch and because I seem to be in the Christmas mood... Here's my first take on the sketch.
I used the new SU exclusive embossing folder Elegant Bouquet for the background. This is such an awesome embossing folder. Jaydee tip: to make the embossing more pronounced... run a couple of pieces of spare card stock underneath the cutting pad when you run the folder through the Big Shot. I used 3 pieces underneath for this card, as I wanted a fairly strong embossed look.
I really wanted to use a traditional Real Red and Garden Green color scheme for this card and love the way that it turned out. Of course, my Stamp-a-ma-jig was very well used on this project! I also used my Stampin' Dimensionals to pop the image underneath the green matt and also underneath the bird. Jaydee tip: Once I have used all the Stampin' Dimensionals on a sheet, I use the border that is left for finicky little projects like these. I can cut the smallest pieces that I need and still get just the right amount of lift from the paper.
Instead of using the ribbon stamp for the wreath, this time I decided to tie a ribbon and make that the top of the wreath instead.
I like the way it turned out - it felt festive and traditional, but still with those spare modern elements that I love so much. Not only that.... it's a VERY easy card to replicate and because of all the lush details (the embossing, the cut out bird, the ribbon, etc) the recipient will never know that it was so quick to make.
On the personal front... we aren't discussing my hair this time.. OK.... :-) but I do appreciate those of you who sent me emails, or left comments showing your support and empathy! It was great to have my DH home this weekend. The weather was hot and humid and we really need some rain! I didn't get much chance to play this weekend, but am hoping to make up for it tonight and over the next couple of evenings. Today I'd like to give a shout-out to my fellow SU demonstrator Carole'Anne (isn't that the coolest name?), and thank her for visiting me and supporting me. You should check out her website.. she made a gorgeous card late last week. You can check it out here.
As always, many thanks for spending time in my little area of the stamping blogosphere - your visit is always much appreciated. I hope you have a fabulous start to your week and get to spend time doing what you love - with those that you love the most.
Peace and hugs
