Build A Roo - I love you THIS much!

Hi Everyone.  Happy Thursday night!
Tomorrow I'm going in for surgery, so it will be a quick post tonight... and I'm not going to get to my other challenge cards.... or the new goodies that arrived in my little brown box that was delivered by a large brown van.... until later this weekend.

I love this Stampin' Up! Build A Roo set.  My hubby is an Aussie, so I've seen a fair number of these guys - both the red and grey varieties.  They really are amazing creatures, so I wasn't surprised that Stampin' Up! brought this set out in Australia before releasing it here.  I remember the night before the catalog was released for preview to the demos.... there was a lot of talk on the demo only websites about whether or not this set would make it into the catalog.  A lot of people - me included - were happy to see that it did.

I decided that for this card, I would water color the grey variety - as the red would have clashed with the Real Red card stock.  I also stamped the heart balloons twice.  The second time, I cut them out and mounted them on top.  I cut out a heart for the pouch with my Heart to Heart punch - using the little heart. 

The brad is from the Build a Brad set.  This set is very versatile as you can customize it to fit any layout that you want.  In this case, I punched a second heart and added it to the brad.  I decided I wanted to carry on the "circle" theme on the ribbon and echo that with a pierced heart.  Jaydee tip:  to do this, I punched out a heart with my Full Heart punch and positioned it on my cardstock - with a little dotto - and then used my paper piercer to work my way around the template I had just created.  Once I was all the way around, I removed the template and voila.... a pierced heart.

Build a Roo - Finally, a card!

Hi Everyone!
Finally, a card to show you! I have a good friend who has just had her second baby.  So this card is to welcome little Alfie.  Hello, Alfie!  I used Stampin' Up's Build a Roo set from the new catalog

Card recipe: The stamps come from the new Build A Roo stamp set (115948).  I watercolored the image using SU watercolor paper (105019) and used Summer Sun paper as the matt and Brilliant Blue for the card.  The Summer Sun paper is from the Earth Elements card stock pack (108697) and the Brilliant Blue is from the Bold Brights (105548) card stock pack.  I actually stamped the Joey twice and cut out the second one and placed over the pouch.  This gave me just the right amount of dimensionality.  The ribbon is the Real Red Polka Dot ribbon (115608).  This time, I decided to make the center of the ribbon the reverse side of the polka dot.  I love the fact that these ribbons can be used either plain or patterned and play around mixing the two.  I colored the flower with the Real Red marker pen and stamped the sentiment with Brilliant Blue ink. 

For the inside, I cut a piece of Summer Sun paper and stamped the joey in brocade blue ink and the sentiment (from Curvy Verses 114948) in Brilliant Blue. 

Overall, I thought it was the right blend of bright and bold fun, perfect for the new little boy of a fabulous friend.  (I'll be posting other cards using this same stamp set over the next couple of weeks and I think it's destined to become one of my favorites.)

Jaydee tips:  If you are watercoloring, make sure you have the right weight paper and stamp the image in StazOn.  StazOn is a fast drying ink and you really need to use a fast drying ink with water.  Normal inks will bleed when you touch the edges of the image.   When watercoloring, I work in small circles from the middle to the outer edges.   Also... I cannot do two step stamping without the Stamp-a-Ma-Jig (101049).  It's the tool that allows me to ensure that I get the placement of the sentiment, or secondary elements (like the flower and the joey), exactly where I want them.  If you haven't used this tool, check with your demonstrator, or a friend, to see if you can test drive theirs.  I promise you... most people who try it, won't stamp without it again. 

On the personal front:  today was a glorious day.  Weather wise... almost perfect... in addition, it's Saturday.... and a day to spend doing things I enjoy....... things that make me happy!  I had breakfast with my handsome hubby.  Did a little shopping.  Did a little playing in my stamping corner.  Took some pictures of my cards.  Played with my gorgeous playmates - my pussycats.  Hubby and I had a farmer's market based dinner out on the deck watching the fawns gambol in our garden- all legs and spots :-) Had a glass of good white wine.  What else can one wish for on a Saturday?

P.S. For my antipodean friends.... I know the ear color isn't technically correct... but I used a little artistic license :-)  and... it looks like I need to take an iron to the backcloth I'm using :-)
