Hi Everyone - Happy Tuesday night and welcome to Jaydee's SU stamping spot. Today's card was a very different layout and one that had me pfaffing around rather a lot. I swear I had so many stamp sets out on top of my workspace that it looked like a used stamp sale! I just couldn't decide on what to do. There was something about Saturday morning that my mojo was flowing reallllllly slowly. However, the thing about doing challenges... is because they are a challenge. It's boring doing the same old stuff and I find that doing these challenges forces me to think outside of my normal style and layouts - and that's a very good thing. Otherwise, it's like eating the same meal every day, at the same table, with the same view.... :-) Here's the sketch challenge layout from Gretchen Barron's Inspiration in Action sketch challenge
Anyway, I finally decided to do something different and take out my SU Christmas Jingle scrapping kit and work with that. Once I'd made that decision, then things moved very quickly. Here's what I finally came up with
I used my texturz plate to emboss the background card stock and then elements from the Christmas Jingle scrapping kit for the images. I also used Old Olive and Real Red markers to color in the hearts to give them more substance. In the kit they are just colored outlines. To give a little more bling, I added Crystal Effects on the hearts.
Jaydee tips:
- when using the textures plates, I like a little more depth. I do that by putting 3 sheets of old card stock underneath the texturz plate before running it through my Big Shot
- Sometimes I also like to highlight the embossing even more - as I did on this card. I did that by taking my sanding block and rubbing it backwards and forwards and then in a circular motion over the top of my card. This takes off the top layer of card stock and exposes a slightly lighter color underneath. It really highlights the embossing.
- when using the scrapping kits for cards... if you have a color printer/copier and it will print on card stock - you can actually photocopy the elements onto cardstock and then use them for multiple cards
- You'll notice that I decided to echo the round elements on the edges of the ribbon. I didn't want to cut them at an angle - or give them a fish tail. I wanted a softer look to echo the other round elements - especially the button. A different detail that adds another element of interest.
In the end, I was actually pleased with the card. It was very different and a painful process to get there. However, once I had the image in my head and knew what I wanted to do - it was a very quick card to assemble. Almost no stamping required.
Hopefully you will be inspired by the sketch and have ideas of your own. Why not participate in Gretchen's challenge and add your card to her site. There are some amazing sketches out there - and Carole'Anne did another amazing card. If you haven't clicked to go visit Gretchen's challenge site in the earlier part of my post - you can check it out here.
On the personal front - we finally had some rain last night. We haven't had rain for a month and it was great to finally smell wet earth. If any of my readers are in the Atlanta area - I hope you and your families properties are all safe. I spent a lot of time working with a client in Atlanta and couldn't believe the pics when I saw them on the news today.
For those of you visiting my site regularly, you may remember the story of Sacha - my best friend's cat who went to Rainbow Bridge a little while ago. You can read about it here. Well, I'm happy to report that Pam has adopted two abandoned kitties - a result of a breakup! Sox and Sparkey..... ooops... Sparkey is such a big girls blouse - that they have renamed him Spooky! Apparently he gets spooked by everything - including John's creaking knee when he climbs the stairs in the middle of the night. Mind you....when I read her note, I could picture Alfred Hitchcock writing the scene. "The bedroom fades to a deep inky darkness. A small thin slither of pale moonlight escapes between the not quite closed curtains. Sparkey Spooky feels the tension - its palpable - his heart is beating fast - but he barely breathes. The noise, quite faint at first, is getting louder. Creak. Thump. Creak. Thump. Creak Thump. His heart beats faster and faster..... he knows it's coming for him. Creak. Thump. Creak. Thump. His eyes widen in terror and Sparkey almost screams, his tail expands to enormous proportions. Creak. Thump. Creak Thump. He can't take it any longer it's getting closer and it's coming for him... he jumps from the bed as high as he can up the curtains... ooops.... fade to Monty Python moment.... Spooky forgets he's been declawed :-)...." well... he hasn't been declawed but it sounded good :-) OK... so now you know why I didn't go into screen writing :-)
And on that note - I'm going to wish you all a "good evening" (for those of you old enough to remember Alfred Hitchcock's program "Alfred Hitchcock Presents"....) Thank you for spending time in my little area of the stamping blogosphere. You are always welcome and your visits area always appreciated.
Any questions.... send me an email or leave me a comment. I look forward to hearing from you.
Peace and hugs
Jaydee
