Hi Everyone. Happy Wednesday night.
Firstly, I would like to thank all of you who were kind enough to leave me such warm wishes for my birthday. It meant a great deal to me and I enjoyed reading each and every one of them. I had a great day and a relaxing weekend. Not much stamping done - unfortunately my index finger was not co-operating when it came to tying bows, cutting, stamping... well, pretty much anything. It was really just a purple/blue and swollen finger that wasn't much good in the crafting room. However, it is getting much better and at least I am able to type! I owe a couple of you emails and I will be able to respond to you tomorrow!
I made a card a week or so ago just the Just Believe set. It's a fabulous set, but not one that I ink up often enough. I decided to do the emboss resist technique and sponge daubers. I have found that I am gravitating toward the textured papers a lot these days. I really didn't think I would fall in love with them, but I certainly have.
For the focal image, I decided to use watercolor paper. That way, I could sponge the colors and then spritz a little water onto the paper and soften up the colors just a little.
Here's what I came up with:
Card recipe - all ingredients Stampin' Up! unless otherwise noted:
- Card stock: Marina Mist, Watercolor paper, Daffodil Delight, Whisper White
- Stamps: Just Believe, Something to Celebrate, Clearly for you
- Inks: Sentiment: Night of Navy. Main image: Marina Mist, Old Olive, Daffodil Delight, Versamark
- Ribbon: some of my very precious Kiwi Kiss satin ribbon
- Tag die: Ribbon trio (non SU)
I love the fresh, summery colors. I think when I was making this card, I really had summer in mind. (In fact, the latter part of last week really made me think that spring was on her way. Errr.... yesterday, Mother Nature had other ideas and our garden now has a fresh carpet of snow.) So, what do you think of the card?
On a personal note:
Talking of spring.... yesterday Lou and I were in the family room drinking tea and watching the weather. About 50 robins flew into the garden. It was the most amazing site. Obviously one of them must have remembered eating in our garden before the migration south and decided he and his friends would pop in to see if the joint was still open! Then, if that wasn't enough - about 30 red wing blackbird males flew in and tried out the buffet, too. It really was an absolutely incredible afternoon. It is so satisfying when the cycle of life repeats itself. There really is something about it which just feels right. For me, it was pretty emotional! I get emotional about all sorts of things :-)
Tonight, I wouldn't want to finish my blog post without noting the passing of Elizabeth Taylor. Not only was she one of the most beautiful women ever to grace this earth, she was a great actress. More importantly, she really was an amazing human being. A woman whose grace, heart, tolerance and work for AIDS and other charitable causes will, sadly, always be overshadowed by her very public love life. A remarkable individual who, hopefully, will be reunited with the true great love of her life, Richard Burton.
Prayers tonight for those of you who need a lift or a warm hug.
Germaine, special hug for you, my friend!!!!!
Don't forget - reach out and send a card to someone - just because you can.
Hugs
Jaydee
