Hi Everyone.
Happy Wednesday. Today's card is from my new Stampin' Up! Close as a Memory set. Sympathy cards are always so difficult as I'm never sure how much is too much in terms of layering, colors, etc. When I saw the splitcoaststampers clean and simple challenge number 44 – I was inspired to make this card. The challenge – a color challenge – any clean and simple card using red and brown. Doing the challenges is always a great way to get the creative juices flowing!
Another hard thing for me to do….. create single layer cards. I've never ever managed to do this before… but something about the color scheme and the stamp set set off bells in my head and this card came together very, very quickly. I stamped it on Whisper White, so it has a really crisp, clean feel.
I decided that it needed a little "something", so I took my crystal effects and used it on the flowers. This give the image a little dimensionality and texture without overpowering the card. I felt it created just the right amount of interest. It was pretty tough getting the right angle for the close-up though!
Card recipe:
- I decided to play down the colors and used Ruby Red and Chocolate Chip – a much softer combination than my original thought of Real Red and Chocolate Chip
- Whisper White card stock
- The retired Red Riding Hood satin ribbon
- Close as a Memory stamp set
- Crystal effects
- that's it – nothing else!
- I inked up the flower from the stamp set with my markers
- I huffed and puffed on the image and stamped it onto a single sheet of Whisper White card stock
- I inked up the sentiment in Chocolate Chip classic ink
- I added the crystal effects to the petals of the flowers
- A piece of Red Riding Hood ribbon
The one thing I realized was that it is very hard to photograph a single layer card. I think it actually looks much better in the hand than it does in photographs. I was actually very happy with the card and will definitely do it again. 🙂
NOW….. for the blog candy…. here's what's up for grabs
- 1 brand new, unmounted stamp set – Font of You – you can see my Font of You examples here. I love this stamp set and can't wait to see what the blog candy winner does with it
- 1 pack of Melon Mambo in-color card stock
- 1 pack of Rich Razzleberry in-color card stock
- and finally….. 1 packet of Stitched Felt Sweat Pea embellishments from the new catty
What do you have to do to be entered in the draw? Just add a comment to my blog between now and midnight CST on December 31.
Tomorrow's post will show you a new card – and how to mount and use the clear mount stamps!
I hope you have a fabulous Thursday…. as for me…. it's my last official work day for the year – and my last day in my existing day job! I start a new day job on January 6th and am looking forward to starting the new year with a new challenge. However, I won't stop doing my "night job" – my stamping 🙂
As always, thank you so much for spending time in my little are of the stamping blogosphere. Your visits are always appreciated. Don't forget – leave a comment – to be entered into the draw for the Blog Candy!
Blessings

This card is so simple yet so catching. I am still amazed at all that can be done with stamping. I love the flowers in this stamp and how they almost stamp like a water color design. Very beautiful. This also makes me more excited for the new catalog! Oh and stop by when you get a chance and look at a card I made. I really hope to get better.
Hi Jaydee,
Love your one layer card, the picture is perfect! That Close As A Memory set is so pretty, I love the flowers. Good luck with the new job and enjoy your holiday!!!
Thank you for your kind comment on my blog!!! You made my day!
Merry Christmas!

Hi Jaydee, I always love your reading your posts. I don’t comment much, not at all really, bad me. I do like the sympathy card, especially the added Crystal Effects. It is also very hard for me to do one layer cards. I wonder why that is? I appreciate all that you share with us. Thanks. Keep up the great work, I look forward to it everyday, sometimes twice.

So glad to have you safely home. I love this card. I like the clean and simple ones. This sympathy card is great because of its brighter colors. Can hardly wait to CAS this one!
Thanks again Jaydee, This would be great to demo at a workshop, a simple card but with a few elements showcasing product and techniques. I will C.A.S.E this at my next workshop with minor adjustments( maybe the sentiment).
Jaydee – What a beautiful card. I’m always looking for clean looking sympathy card and this one is a keeper. Congrats on your last day-and your new position in January. Kadie in Arizona.
