I saw the color challenge across at Embellish magazine. Three colors that I generally do not combine. Well, you all know..... that's the reason I do challenges! The additional challenge - something vintage... well, I really wanted to use the French Foliage set for this color combination and decided to keep the layout clean and simple but add a couple of more vintage touches.
I was a little concerned about how I would incorporate the green, especially as Garden Green is a color I so rarely use... however, when I started working with it - I realized what a great vibrant color scheme that it is. For the yellow, I decided to go with a mustard yellow - as it helped to keep with the other colors.
Here's what I created
My vintage elements...the twine - I thought it worked really well with the leaves. The button with the string and the old fashioned mini library clip. I love the textured paper, too.
I inked up the images using classic inks - except for the one leaf. That one I hand colored the stamp using my stampn' write markers. I used the masking technique to make sure that the stamps didn't all jumble over themselves.
One of the things I love about the French Foliage stamp set, is that the leaves have a transparency about them when they are stamped. I really think it is a cool sketch.
Additionally, I pulled out my petal card punch, my inchies and created a little tag and pocket for the thank you.
Card recipe:
Card stock: Garden Green, More Mustard, Cajun Craze
Stamps: Cute by the Inch, French Foliage
Accessories: Hemp twine, button, string, mini library clip
Tools: Petal card punch, stampin' dimensionals
On a personal note... Lou and I have two weeks together and have promised each other that we will spend as much of our time TOGETHER, as opposed to together but doing lots of other things. We have been apart so much the last two years, that spending two weeks is going to be great. Consequently, my posts will be a little shorter than normal. I will continue to post, new projects though.
As always, prayers to those in need and those that just need a little lift.
Your visits, your support and your comments are very important to me. So thank you.
Don't forget - smile... it could change someone's life.
Hi Everyone. Happy Wednesday night. I hope you all had a great day. Tonight's card was actually created for the CAS-tastic challenge. The challenge was to create a blue and white card with a little bit of yellow. Well, I managed to follow the instructions - a clean and simple card with those colors.... what I didn't manage to do is get the card loaded for the challenge before they closed the linky... One day, I'm going to get my timing right :-)
Actually, I made two cards for this challenge, so you will get to see them both over the next couple of days... they are very different cards and use very different stamp sets.
tonight's set, is the level 2 hostess set - Cute by the Inch. So, it is a sneak peek for one more night! The catty should be loaded and available sometime after 2am MST. For my customers, the care packets are almost complete - I have a couple of things still left to finish up and they will be packaged up, wrapped in a bow and sent off to their new homes. For my non-client blog visitors, next week, I'll show you some of the things that I put together. I really did have great fun putting together the packages.
So, here's tonight's clean and simple blue and white, with a little bit of yellow, card.
Punch 4 squares of Pacific Point card stock with the 1 1/4" punch
Ink up the pattern stamp with Pacific Point marker
Ink up the bird/thinking of you stamp with Daffodil Delight and Pacific Point inks and stamp onto Whisper White card stock. Punch out with the 1" punch
Stamp the sentiment from the FYI stamp set "you make me smile" onto the card base using Pacific Point ink.
Score two lines 1/4" apart above the sentiment and wrap a piece of Daffodil Delight ribbon around the card. Secure to the card base. Remove the legs from the rhinestone brad and secure to the card stock using your favorite glue or lots of little mini glue dots :-)
Adhere the 1" squares to the 1 1/4" squares using snail. The adhere the finished squares to the card base using dimensionals.
Tips:
Use a T-square and your black SU cutting mat (or whatever mat you use that has measurements. It really does help tremendously when positioning things like this. Mind you... my top one wasn't quite perfect. But considering my inability to do anything in a straight line - it's considerably better than when I don't use the t-square
The 4 square layout is a classic clean and simple fall to layout - you have seen me use it many times.
The new thin ribbon is perfect with the inchies. Anything wider would draw too much away from the stamped images.
On a personal note: It's cool again tonight- but that hasn't been enough to kill the mossies off! They are biting me as I sit on the deck trying to finish off this post. The fireflies are dancing around the garden - what amazing little things they are. They absolutely fascinate me. Mother Nature certainly knows how to put on a wonderous show! Perfect!
I'm off to try to finish up my care packages and also read through my order for tomorrow. There are a couple of absolutely must have sets for me and I can't wait to play with them. I am also ordering some accessories and, of course, much more paper! So, I am all excited about that. Unfortunately tomorrow is going to be a very long day at my day job.... we really need to win the lottery!!! - so I won't get much chance to run through my list tomorrow to make sure it's OK.. so I have to do it tonight.
This weekend, we will be doing things around the house and going to get a water fountain for the garden next to the deck and doing all sorts of fun things like that! I'm off for most of next week - apart from some meetings I have to attend, and am hoping to get lots of time in my stamping space.
NOW>>>>>> QUESTION for you all...... (thanks to Trish who has already sent me an email giving me her thoughts).... .I am really looking for feedback on what you would like to see on my blog. And... if there is anything that you wouldn't miss if you didn't see it again... I'd like to hear about that too. It is my belief that blogs should evolve, but not too far away from what makes it what it is. So, please could I ask you to think about it and send me an email - or leave a message. I will share with you all some of the thoughts that you have sent to me. Missy - you will be pleased to know that Trish thought about you when she sent me her suggestions... she said the one thing I should do is a video on how to tie bows :-)
So, please let me know what you think.... I really would appreciate it.
Prayers tonight for Trish, Germaine, Pri, "T", Missy, Rach and Arthur. Robin - still thinking about you and hope that things go well tomorrow.
Have a wonderful Thursday everyone. If any of you are traveling tomorrow, travel safe. Otherwise, have a day filled with love, laughter and time spent doing the things you love - with those you love the most.
As always, thank you for spending s a little time in my area of the stamping blogosphere. Your visits are always much appreciated.

You can add your link to your blog, or to a public gallery such as splitcoaststampers
We are happy if you combine our challenge with others for the week
All that is required - create a masculine card this week - any masculine card will do
It's really exciting to see our first challenge up and running and I am very grateful to Lesley for asking me to be a part of the Paper Players Design Team. We'd really love to see what you come up with.
Here's the take on a masculine card. It introduces you to two great new colors - Cherry Cobbler and Early Espresso - and is a sneak peek for the brand new level 2 hostess set called Cute by the Inch.
I am so in love with Cherry Cobbler. It really is the color red that we were missing in the collection and I can't wait for you to see the new Christmas DSP using this beautiful color.
How I created the card:
I used two stamps from the Cute by the Inch set the Love and the bottom one actually says Thank U. Because the Thank U didn't fit with my design, I inked up the stamp with my Cherry Cobbler marker and missed out the Thank part and just colored the outline and the U.
I punched out the two stamped images using my 1" punch and 4 squares of Cherry Cobbler with my 1 1/4" punch.
I popped the two stamped images up from the Cherry Cobbler square using Stampin Dimensionals
I put my Early Espresso card base (size A2) into my Polka Dot embossing folder - but only half way. That way only the bottom half of my card base was embossed. I also turned it around and highlighted the debossed side instead.
I tied a piece of the new 1/8" inch Early Espresso ribbon around the card and secured it with a retired brad from Spring mini.
Quick, easy and perfect for a masculine card, especially for those men who don't play golf, fish, etc.
Tips:
This card could easily be changed to fit a color scheme appropriate for your man. Whether it's college football, basketball or other sport colors. Brenda for instance could do this in Green and Gold for the Packers. Both her men are Packers fans!
You could also repeat the Love stamp and put it into the 2 squares that only have the Cobbler
As this card is appropriate for any of the men in your life, it would be easy to personalize it with a stamp that says "Father, Dad', Son, Brother, Uncle, etc" and could be stamped onto an oval and placed over the ribbon.
You could easily make this into a feminine card by changing out the colors, adding a more feminie color ribbon and adding a pearl or flower brad.
Products used:
Stamps: Cute by the Inch (120131 Clear, 116992 Wood) -both available July 1
Paper: Cherry Cobbler (119685), Early Espresso (119686) - both available July 1
Ribbon: Early Espresso 1/8" Taffeta Ribbon (119959)
I really enjoyed working on this challenge and now it's all your chance to inspire us with your favorite masculine cards. The Paper Players will also be choosing a winner - the Headliner for the week - and three submissions that were - A cut above the rest.
Have a fabulous Sunday everyone. I hope it is a day filled with love, laughter and time to enjoy those you love the most. Me... time with my hubby, my cats, the critters in our garden, our new deck - and my new SU goodies!
Hugs
Jaydee
