The Paper Players

Hi Everyone.  Happy Sunday night.

Before I share a card with you tonight, I wanted to give you the details on the new design challenge site and the design team that I am now a part of.   Introducing The Paper Players.  Many of you will have seen comments on my posts from Lesley.  Well, a couple of weeks ago, Lesley wrote and invited me to be a member of the new design team that she was establishing.  Lesley is changing her blog over to the challenge site and we will be running weekly challenges for you. 

Needless to say, I was thrilled and honored, to be a part of this team.  I love Lesley's talent, energy, creativity and positive, upbeat nature.  I have loved visiting her blog over the last few months.  There are two other members of the design team - LeeAnne and Corie and they are also amazingly talented. 

Lesley's blog is called Alwaysplayingwithpaper, and that was the theme that she used to create the name of the design team.  We are looking for a guest designer for JUNE.  Now, I know that there are many talented people who read my blog.  How do I know?  Because I have seen your work and had it in my hot little mittens!

So, why not put your fabulous creativity to work and pop along and post a project to try out for the guest designer spot.  Here's the link with the details.  All, it takes is a few minutes to upload a pic of your project... go on... you know you can do it! :-)

For those of you participating in the card drive for charity and the chance to win $100 worth of SU goodies from the new catty, courtesty of moi..... the closing date for entries is midnight on JUNE 30.  So, you have from now until June 30 to send me 10 or more hand crafted cards for either hugsandhope or operationwritehome.  For each 10 cards - with envelopes - that you send, you will get one entry into the draw.  My helpful and reliable helper Bilbo Baggins will be drawing a name.  Imagine.... $100 to spend on goodies from the new catty... all those wonderful new goodies :-)  Aside from that, think of the amazing children and servicemen/women and their families that you will spread a little love to.

FINALLY.... to tonight's card.  The CAS challenge this week was to chose a focal image that was a person, a group or a character; to add a little bit of ribbon and a little texture.  Well, you know that I had to pull out my kimono lady from Dream Gardens.

I stamped the lady on Whisper White in Real Red.  I matted her on a basic black and real red card stock.

The bottom half of the card was run through my Big Shot and the polka dot embossing folder. 

I took a piece of Whisper White Satin Ribbon and stamped one of the images from the Dream Gardens set onto the ribbon using Real Red classic ink.  I made sure that the part where the crane is was included on the ribbon.  That allowed me to echo the crane in her kimono.

Of course, two small pearls finished the image.  The small circles of the pearls echo the dots on the folder and the dots on her kimono.

Well, Lou and I are off to have dinner on the deck again.  The joys of not having to go to work tomorrow!

One Layer Cards

Hi Everyone.  Happy Sunday Night.

I hope you have all had a fabulous and relaxing weekend.  I managed to get a little time in my stamping space again today.  I did tell myself that I could only go down there once I had done housework.  I really do need Rosie from the Jetson's to come and live with me.  Not sure what the cats would say, though!

I find one layer cards particularly difficult.  Y'all know that I'm all about layering! :-)  However, that's what challenge cards are all about, right?  Challenging!  On top of that, the challenge card today is for the clean and simple site simplicitybylateblossom.  Now, LateBlossom is to clean and simple what Chanel is to the little black dress.  Consequently, doing this challenge was even more nerve wracking!

The challenge was to feature ribbon.  I pulled out two stamp sets. Dream Garden and Peace Within.  I've always felt that the main image from Dream Garden goes so well with the saying from Peace Within.  So, for this card I put them both together.

I wanted to a little dimension to the background and, because I couldn't do it with layers, needed to do it with color.  I pulled out a template, my Bashful Blue and Certainly Celery inks and my sponge daubers and I was good to go.  (As Ann pointed out in one of her comments on this card, this image looks very good with a brayered background.  However, for this card, I wanted a more subtle effect, so decided sponge daubers was best.)

I think this is such a supremely serene and rather beautiful stamp, so the sentiment is perfect for the image.

I know that the challenge said nothing should be on the card other than ribbon..... but I just couldn't help myself.... I just had to put two little pearls on her.  For some reason, the image just seems incomplete without them :-)

Of course, I had to feature the Chocolate Chip satin ribbon.  I just love this ribbon and I am really hoping SU will be expanding the color choices in the new catty.  Did I tell you I was excited about the new catty!!!:-)  Just 15 more days before the preview... even though it will be just a few things they show us that we are allowed to pre-order, I am really hoping that we can get the new colors on pre-order.

I played around with Cherry Cobbler today.....   OH... I am SO in love with this color.  It really is the deep luscious red that we have been missing and it looks fabulous with black and white.  You will be seeing the card that I made with this combination later this week.  Tomorrow's card is all about masculine cards.

Get Well Wishes

Hi Everyone

Happy Monday night.  I do hope you all had a fabulous Mother's Day weekend.  Thank you to those of you who commented on my Mother's Day homage yesterday.  I think Mom and MIL would have been happy:-)

Tonight's card (using Dream Gardens) was inspired by the fabulous team across at playdatecafe (still love that name!!!)  The challenge PDCC28 was to use pink, black and white.  Now the inspiration was a much paler pink than I used - in fact more a blush color.  However, when I started playing around with it, I was drawn to using Melon Mambo.  It's a pink that can certainly hold it's own with so much black.  Now, I could have gone with a white background and de-emphasized the the black.. but, I don't know why... but this was the color combo that really fell into place.  Ever have those days where you start off creating one thing and end up with something totally different?  Well, yesterday was one of those days!

Before I show you the card, I have to show you the flowers that arrived for me on Saturday.  They were from the cats.  Now, how the cats managed to get hold of the local florist, choose some of my favorite all time flowers to be put together in a vase - and managed to write a card to me... all without me knowing they had even left the house... is beyond me :-)  But they sure were much appreciated. 

Aren't they fabulous?  Now, I have to share with you a pic of the pun cushion protea - a native plant of South Africa.

Isn't that the most amazing flower?  The vase was overflowing - and it was a huge vase with tulips, lilies, iris, proteas, red roses.  Gorgeous!

Anyway, on to the card... I know that's what you came looking for :-)

 

I love this set... but seriously think it might be one of those retired in a couple of weeks.  Do I know that for sure?  NO!  It's just me speculating.  Why do I think that it might be retired?  How many of you actually own it?  I see very few cards made from this set... and it's a pity - cos I think it's kind of cool!

I stamped her in Melon Mambo onto an Oval .  One word of warning with this set... make sure your image is well conditioned, because it does tend to pick up and show any area of the stamp which wasn't well inked :-)

I stamped the sentiment from Teeny Tiny Wishes in Black StazOn using my stamp-a-ma-jig.

The horizontal strip is the other stamp from the set.  I stamped it in black and positioned it so that the two cranes ran parallel to each other. 

The card base was run through my Big Shot with the square lattice embossing folder.  Love this folder:-)

A piece of textured Melon Mambo paper was placed at the bottom.

Cherie... for you... two small pearls were added!  I did use black ones first.. but they really stood out too much, so I went with a pink instead.

Card sizes: 

A2.  Melon Mambo 4 1/8"W x 2" H.  The piece that is showing is 1 5/8"H.  The rest is covered by the strip

Horizontal strip:  4 1/8"W x 7/8"H

Oval: 3 5/8" H x 2 3/4"W

I really enjoyed playing with the color scheme.  I know it's not the pale pink in the inspiration, but for this image, I thought it really needed a stronger color, especially to stand up against the black.

On a personal note, I watched the finale of The Amazing Race last night.  It really is the only reality show that I watch.  I love watching them travel all around the world doing things I would never, ever do... like winching your way up the Coit Tower in San Francisco; walking forwards down very tall buildings.. yeah.. right... I get scared standing on a chair!  Well.... I was furious... nay.... outraged... nay appalled that the cowboy's didn't win.  Those two young men are amazingly well brought up young men and forever changed the way I look at people who bull-ride.  :-)

Missy... I love the fact that Tulips and Butterflies are your favorites!...I agree with you about Tulips on the grave - or buttercups.  They always remind me of my childhood!  Rach... I laughed when I read your comment about thinking that the card was something I would have made.  Finally... I have found "my" style! :-)  Terri, I'm sorry you don't have a Tarjay up in Canada... I mean, they even have them in Australia!

Every Day...and Winners announcement

Hi Everyone.

I know...you all want to know who won.... both the blog candy - and the Big Shot for those that helped me with the charity card drive.... Hang on though....

A quick card for you tonight.  I used the Palspaperarts sketch to create this card.  I don't often use Pumpkin Pie, but I wanted something bright and rich to show off the gorgeous stamp in the Dream Garden set. I just love this sentiment "Every day holds the possibility of a miracle."  Isn't that just so true!  It's from the Peace Within stamp set

I used Pumpkin Pie on the kimono and then used my black marker to create a shawl effect on the kimono, color the fan black and also her hair.  I used a piece of the DSP from the Kaleidoscope pack and half pearls to add to the asian feel.  I hope you like it.  I thought the sketch was great and I was really inspired to turn the sketch on it's side and use this stamp.
