Hi Everyone. Happy Monday.
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Today was my first day back at work after spending last week footloose and fancy free!
Tonight I am kicking off my 2011 Operation Write Home card drive – more on that after the card reveal!
Tonight's card is another one of the cards that I made for the splitcoaststampers virtual stamp night. You may remember that we had 45 minutes to make the card. This particular challenge was called Polly Wanna Cracker? The challenge was to use a bird on a square card using bold colors. I pulled out my very favorite all time bird stamp. I know that this set is retiring, but there is no way I will get rid of this set. I just love it too much!
I was very happy with the way this card came out.
Card recipe – all ingredients Stampin' Up
- Card stock: Pacific Point, Whisper White
- Stamp: Friends 24-7
- Inks: Pacific Point (classic ink), Crumb Cake, Always Artichoke, Basic Black (markers)
- Accessories: Pacific Point ribbon – retired
- DSP: Patterns Pack
This card could easily be adapted to fit your favorite color scheme. It's a standard 5 x 5 card, so fits very comfortably into the normal square envelopes. Cutting out the bird on the branch and raising it on dimensionals really adds to the card and stops it from being overwhelmed by the ribbon. The triple layer framing really helps to separate it from the background DSP. I was pretty pleased with it, especially as it took me less than 45 minutes from conception to putting the finishing pearl on the birds eye 🙂
NOW>>>> Operation Write Home
As the new catty is almost upon us, I thought it might be the ideal time to offer up some blog candy from the new catty. The normal rules apply. For every 20 handmade cards and envelopes you donate to my Operation Write Home card drive, you get entered in to a draw to win one of two great prizes courtesy of MOI. Here's the deets:
- Every 20 cards and envelopes (A2 size preferred) = 1 entry into the draw
- There will be two draws:
- One draw for $100.00 of Stampin' Up! merchandise from the 2011/2012 or summer mini catalog
- One draw for $50.00 of Stampin' Up! merchandise from the 2011/2012 or summer mini catalog
- Card drive will take place from now until the end of August. So, you have a couple of months to make cards. It's a perfect time to make Christmas cards, Hannukah cards, Kwanzaa cards, birthday cards, thank you, miss you, love you. So, almost anything – except Mother's Day, Father's Day, Thanksgiving, Halloween. It would be too late for those.
- Bilbo Baggins – my wonderfully helpful 4 legged helper – will draw two names on August 31 at midnight. Winners of the SU merchandise will be announced on my blog on September 1.
Many of you have been incredibly and wonderfully supportive of my card drives in the past. I am hoping that you are willing to help out again. I know that many of you must have fabulous cards sitting in your stash that you would like to donate, or feel the need to make cards for a purpose. It's a wonderful purpose, too. In case this is your first time, read what a difference a handmade card can make to a servicewoman and her children at home. Here's part of a recent letter posted on the OWH site.

I can send a little piece of me to my kids
I have 3 kiddos, Hannah is 8, Hayden is 7, and Hunter is 2. The cards were so cute that I decided every Friday I would send each one of my kids one, letting them know how proud I was of them and "good job" cards for school and activities. The kids enjoyed them so much that they hung pretty ribbons in their room and displayed the cards to look at daily, a constant reminder that I am always thinking about them.
I can't speak much about what I do in Iraq, but I can tell you that the days are long, nights are short, weather rarely cooperates, and homesickness is felt by all. The people that are making cards and writing letters brings so much joy to us that it is hard for me to explain in a letter. What is really wonderful is when we get the cards, we are happy and excited, carefully picking out the most perfect one for our loved ones. We write on the cards and that happiness is portrayed through our words giving hope and smiles to our friends and families back home. I love that I can send a little piece of me to my kids on Fridays, and for that I am eternally grateful. Thank you!
Sincerely,
SSG K.H.

I’m IN!! :o)
Fantabulous card–as always. :o) Pacific Point has really grown on me over the past couple of years, and I love how wonderful it is with that sweet birdie. :o)
I hope your first week back is smooth sailing.
Hugs!
Beautiful card. I must CASE it as I have this set and have never made a card with it.
This is really a pretty card Jaydee. Might have to case this one if I have something to put in the center. I don’t have that stamp set. Thanks for sharing.
Count me in! Sorry I’ve not been able to comment lately, with graduation, 1/2 marathons and other issues I haven’t had much free time. Makes me extra envious of your time off, hope you’ve been able to enjoy and relax.
BTW, Love the card for today, fantastic bold colors and that pearl in the bird’s eye brings it to life. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the card and the note from the military person about OWH. I tend to be a bit isolated in my busy life. That is a fabulous reminder of the impact our simple act of sharing cards has and how it can touch lives across the world. Thank you for starting another card drive. You can definitely count on my support.
I will be praying for you as you are back at work. Please tell Lou to contact me if we need to do an intervention to rescue you from your desk. I know you are too stubborn to ask for help!
Love ya,
B
What a birght and beautiful card!
Count me in on making some cards for the troops. Thanks for posting the letter, it shows how the time and effort are worth it!
Couldn’t find an email link for you. Where do we send cards. I have so many I’ve been trying to figure out what to do with them. This is the first I’ve heard of Operation Write Home. email:[email protected]
Like the card and colors. Is there an address to sent the cards too?
You can count me in Jaydee! That letter brought tears to my eyes. I have personally gone through numerous deployments with my husband. I sill have every single card and letter he sent each time he was gone. I truly appreciate what OWH does to support our military members by connecting them to their loved ones, while they are far away from them. Thank you for starting this card drive!! Hugs! 🙂
Beautiful card, Jaydee! This is one of my favorite sets!
Beautiful card and I dearly love that Pacific Point for this! Really makes it pop!
