Hi Everyone. Happy Wednesday night. I hope you all had a great day.
Tonight's card does something that I don't think do often enough - make ribbon a feature. The key to ribbon is trying to make sure it doesn't over power the sentiment. Using markers to highlight a couple of key words on this sentiment, helps to keep the sentiment still in the limelight.
I found another new challenge site - with such a cool name... waltzingmouse. Now, it's obviously to celebrate their stamps, but they have allowed stamps from any company to be featured, and for me, of course, it had to be SU. The sentiment is from the Full of Life set. Again, it's one of those sets that doesn't see enough ink in my stampin space. However, it is a really wonderful sentiment.
The sketch from the waltzingmouse challenge site is fabulous.. There are also some amazing inspiration cards, so I really encourage you to pop along and check them out. Here's my card based on the sketch:
I used the Old Olive striped ribbon... so pleased that SU is keeping this ribbon around - even though I don't use it often enough... and paired it with the Square Lattice embossing folder. It really is one of my favorite embossing folders. Ann uses it a lot, too! In fact, I clicked on her site to give you the link and noticed that she has a preview of her card for the palspaperarts challenge tomorrow.. and, guess what... yes! it has the square lattice folder! It really is one of my favorite folders.
Card recipe:
- Card stock: Old Olive, Whisper White
- Ink: Old Olive, Peach Parfait markers (for the sentiment)
- ribbon: Old Olive striped ribbon
- Tools: Big Shot, Square Lattice embossing folder, stampin dimensionals, stamp-a-ma-jig
Card instructions:
- Cut Old Olive card stock to A2 horizontal
- Run Old Olive card stock through Big Shot with Square Lattice embossing folder and adhere to half of the card base
- Wrap ribbon around the card and tie a bow.
- Cut and emboss oval with nestabilities
- Ink up sentiment with Peach Parfait and Old Olive markers and stamp onto Oval using stamp-a-ma-jig
- Adhere sentiment using dimensionals
That's it.... really quick and simple!
Tips:
- I wrapped a piece of ribbon around the card and glued down to the card base. I then made a bow from a separate piece of ribbon.
- Using a piece of twine and a needle, I folded the ribbon that runs vertically around the card and sewed with the twine with a few stitches. Once it was gathered the way I wanted it, I attached the bow with lots of mini glue dots. Voila! instant beautiful bow.
OPERATION WRITE HOME Showcase # 2
Here's the second lot of cards from our talented stamper, Lynn. You can see her wonderful blog here.
Missy, this card is another good reason for you to use the Beautiful Wings embosslit you just purchased :-) I loved the colors and the clean and simple, yet beautiful lines on this card. I also loved the colors.
This card needs no words... .. it really is beautiful.
As is this one... I can just imagine some serviceman/woman's spouse receiving this card ad the reaction they would get..... the detailing - the piercing, the ribbon... everything about them... I really do love Lynn's creative touch and her confident use of colors and her amazing attention to detail.
On a personal note: We are sitting on the deck as I write this post. The moon rose a long time ago and the bats are doing their aerobics over our heads. The humidity has finally dropped and it is a perfect night. We are so pleased that we did our deck. The fawn made her appearance again tonight - all legs and spots, but stayed very close to mamma. She is, however, absolutely gorgeous. the highlight of the night - if you will excuse the pun - is the fireflies. they never - and I mean never - cease to amaze me. Mother nature sure knows how to put on a show every night.
Well. lots of things to celebrate around the soccer at the world cup tonight... Both England and the US made it through to the final 16 and Australia won with grand fashion, even though they were eliminated. Tomorrow, Italy plays! It's quite interesting in our house when sports are on. Lou barracks for Italy and Australia, I barrack for England and South Africa and we both barrack for the US. (Barrack is an Australian term that means - actively support and encourage, generally with a beer in one hand and a flag in the other!) HOWEVER... all of that pales into insignificance when you read the story of the two tennis players at Wimbledon who are immersed in the match of a lifetime... nay.. that is not true... no match has EVER been fought so hard as this one. They are both champions in my book - take a look at this - US vs France match. These two deserved the standing ovation they received when the stopped for the night... and regardless of who wins.. they are both champions as far as I'm concerned!
Germaine, glad to know you are feeling better. Beth, I am pleased that things have stabilized with your Mom. Lynn, I hope that everything is OK with Jim. Germaine, I have added Pri to the prayer list. Rach, continued prayers for you over the next few weeks. Trish.. continued prayers for you, too. Cherie... continued prayers for T.
As always, thank you so much for spending time in my little area of the stamping blogosphere. You know your visits, your support - and your comments - are greatly appreciated.
Have a fabulous Thursday - and don't forget to smile at a stranger. It may change their life.
Hugs
Jaydee
