Hi Everyone. Happy Saturday!
For those of you who are following my blog, you will know that I'm crazy about natural things. The Stampin' Up! Simple Friendship butterfly is one of my all time favorite butterflies. For this card, I used Mojo Monday Challenge number 90 for the inspiration. I love Stampin' Up's Simple Friendship set and, in fact, I did two cards with this layout I loved it so much. Unfortunately, I had lost the cable to upload my pictures and was not able to get this layout loaded before they closed the challenge.
I took the first photograph from this angle so that you could see the dimension to the card. I started with Rich Razzleberry card stock, which I ran through the Big Shot and the polka dot texturz plate. Jaydee tip: To add more dimension to the dots, I rubbed a sanding block over the top of the dots in a circular motion. (This takes the top off the dots and releases a paler color in the paper.) I love using this technique with the polka dot ribbon.)) Especially as it makes the small polka dots look as though they are mimicing the lighter polka dots of the ribbon. To add more dimension to the butterfly, I stamped it twice. The second time I cut it out and mounted it over the original stamped image and lightly curled up the edges. I took the picture from this angle to show this. Here's the view of the card from the front. It's easier to see the sanding, but harder to see the lift of the wings of the butterfly.
I stamped the butterfly in Melon Mambo ink and then used the "rock and roll" technique to coat the stamp in Rich Razzleberry on the outer edges. I love this technique and you can see where I have used it before on this project - also using the butterfly. I used the flower stamp from the Circle Circus set to create a pattern on the Melon Mambo paper behind the main image. I used Rich Razzleberry ribbon and finished it off with the round message from Matchbox Messages and a filligree brad. I mounted the whole thing on Very Vanilla cardstock and used Very Vanilla for stamping the butterfly and the sentiment. Great layout.... I am usually very inspired by the MojoMonday layouts - so thank you, MM!
On the personal front: OK.... so did summer and fall come and go in the last few days? We have been caught in an Artic pattern and it was 58 degrees as a HIGH! In July? Mind you, as I love the colder weather, I wasn't exactly complaining. I've been having fun today playing with a couple of new stamp sets and hope to get some new cards completed and photographed over the next week. This morning, it was a quick visit to the Farmer's Market. I swear, it's one of the highlights of my week, especially as we have such long winters and I have severe withdrawal symptoms from the lack of locally grown Heirloom tomatoes. What I ever did before I discovered Heirloom tomatoes, I have no idea! No tomatoes taste like those! I like to slice 3 or so different varieties, put them on a plate, sprinkle with really good quality salt (Maldon, Himalayan pink salt, etc) and then drizzle them with a really good quality olive oil, either plain, or lemon flavored. Yummy.
As always, I wish you an inkspirational day with lots of fun times .. and thank you for spending a little part of your day in my area of the stamping blogosphere. Look for a new card on Monday. Have a fabulous weekend.
Jaydee
