Six Sided Sampler for Paper Players # 149

Hi Everyone.  Happy Saturday.

I got a little time in my stamping space today whilst Lou was painting!  We both agree that the new colors are so much better than the old ones, so it's really worth the effort!

As it is Saturday, it's time to show you my Paper Players card.  The fabulous Ann has a great color challenge for us this week and it's amazing how different these colors look when you check out the design team cards.  Here's the challenge:

Even though my initial reaction had been to go with a floral theme, I decided I really wanted to use one of the new sets – Six Sided Sampler.  It's a fabulous set and comes with a matching punch.  (You can get the stamp set and the punch at a 15% discount if you buy the bundle.)  I decided to use just the stamps for my card.   I started with a Whisper White base and some post-it notes.   I used the Post-It notes to mask a diagonal section across the card and worked with Pool Party, Calypso Coral and So Saffron to build my pattern.

The saving grace for this card was my Stamp-a-ma-jig!  I wouldn't have been able to do this card if I didn't get jiggy with it :-)

I really loved the different textures on the stamps and used that texture to create interest, as well as using the hexagons at different heights.  I love the way the colors softened with the texture of the stamps and that allowed me to focus on the sentiment, which I stamped in the Early Espresso.   I used my Early Espresso marker to create a line above and below the sentiment to help frame it – and ground the hexagons, too.  I poped the Whisper White layer onto Pool Party using dimensionals.  The great thing about using these colors is that you could use Espresso, Calypso, Saffron or Pool Party for the base of the card and it would still work.  Of course, I felt it needed a couple of rhinestones just to give it a little pop :-)  I can't wait to use this set again and think that it really works with this layout.

Don't forget to pop along to the Paper Players and check out the amazing cards from the design team.  Oh, yeah!   Play along, too!   We'd love you to join us.

On a personal note:

You may remember Georgina – our resident Groundhog.  My older readers may remember that Georgina first made an appearance a little while after we moved into our new home last year, when she was known as George.   One day, we realized that she was, in fact, nursing, and renamed her Georgina.  You can see that original photo of her on this post.

Well, yesterday, we discovered that Georgina in fact has a mate, whom we called George.  Of course!   Imagine our surprise today when we discovered that George and Georgina had become George, Georgina, Porgie, Pudding and Pie.   yep, they have three little groundhog babies!!!!

Here's Pudding and Pie:

Where was Porgie?   Well, he has to be the male… cos he was climbing trees!

Whilst the babies were playing, George and Georgina were doing a little housekeeping.  It was amazing to watch them gathering grasses and leaves in their mouths.  We think they must have been refreshing the bedding in their burrows.  It was pretty amazing to see.

Last weekend, Lou and I managed to finally sit out on the deck and have dinner.  It certainly hasn't been dry enough – or warm enough to do that much, so we took full advantage of the slightly warmer weather and sat and enjoyed the view over the wetland

You can see that we have our "comfy" chairs covered up to protect them from what seems to be never-ending rain!   It really is amazing how cold and wet and grey it has been.  It's pretty unusual for this time of the year, but the wetland certainly has benefited from it.

As always, thank you for visiting my little neck of the woods.   Colleen, I am envious of your Purple Martins and Mary, envious of your young Sandhill!

Warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.

Hugs

Jaydee

  1. great looking card once again Jaydee. The hexagons sure are the ‘in’ thing now.
Cute little groundhogs but my, they sure can do a lot of damage to ones, yard and veggie beds.

  2. Love that card, I just ordered that bundle, can’t wait to get it! Those baby groundhogs are adorable! So glad you shared those photos.

  3. Oo. I REALLY like those colors together and now I’m wondering if I’ll have time to play along…That stamp set and punch are on my wishlist for my next order. :o) I really like the way you created the sentiment to go diagonally across the hexagons. Perfection!
OMGoodess! Look at the babies!! How delightful the Georges have a family full or imps and you get to watch them! :o)
I’m so happy you had a chance to get out and enjoy dining al fresco. We did not do so this year and now I fear we’re too late–the heat and humidity (and mosquitoes!!) have set in. :oS
I do hope you’ll share a photo of all Lou’s hard work!
    Hugs!
P.S. Howdy Lou! I hope all your painting is done for a while…;o)

  4. Great minds think alike, Jaydee! I was wondering if anyone else might come up with a hexagon card. I love how you laid yours out on the diagonal, and the masking is perfect. Thanks for sharing your groundhog photos, they are so cute! Hugs 🙂 Sandy

  5. Love your sampler card….can’t wait to get my own set! And your nature shots are fun….just make sure those groundhogs stay away from YOUR house!

  6. I love this card, Jaydee! It reminds me a bit of a treasured quilt my grandmother made. Your card is so soft and pretty, and I love the stamping on the diagonal.

  7. Jaydee, this is fabulous! I love how this stamp set makes the colors more subtle and your diagonal stamping is right on trend! Fabulous job, my friend! (hugs)
