Spring Song

Hi Everyone

Happy Friday night.  I finally managed to get into my stamping space this evening.   YAY!!!!  So, I did one card to fit two challenges.... a new challenge for me... the Lordhavemercy sketch challenge - which was a square card... not often I do a square card!  and then I mixed it with the palspaperarts inspiration challenge, which used birds.  I don't know where the ppa team got their gorgeous inspiration photos from... but I'd love to visit that site!

Anyway, I decided to use my Spring Song set, which is one of the sets Lou bought me with my water color crayons.  In fact... it's one of the sets that is a FREE choices with SAB this year (120230 if you are choosing it as an SAB set).  Well,  I loved the layout of the sketch challenge - and loved the inspiration, so, here's my card.

I decided to make it a Mother's Day card.  I colored the bird and the flower with markers and with crayons.  Before anyone asks.... this is an Anas hummingbird.... the first hummers we lived with and fed in California. We adored our hummers and were sad to leave them.  The Anas tend to have a more purpley looking color than the bright red ruby throated we have here in Minnesota.  I made it a little more purple to make it stand out from the paper.  The one thing I hadn't realized when I went to look for photos of the Ana's is how many colors they have from brown on their back and wings, the gorgeous greens, the whitey-grey under their outer wings.... amazing.

I used Rich Razzleberry for the background card stock and used the gorgeous.... and I mean ... gorgeous paper from hostess set "Lovely Flowers" pack.

I colored the bird and the flowers and then trimmed them with my paper snips and placed them onto a circle if Naturals White card stock.  My arthritic fingers certainly felt the snipping :-)

The background circle is cut from Rose Red and I used my scallop circle die to cut it out.

I stamped the "Wonderful Mother" from Well Scripted in Rich Razzleberry directly onto the Naturals White circle.

I popped the cut out hummer and flowers onto stampin dimensionals and placed on the Naturals White, over the sentiment.

A little Rich Razzleberry ribbon, turned around, and some half pearls finished off the card.

St Patty's and Charity Final Card Count

Hi everyone.

Hope you all forgive me for not posting last night.  The girls and I were hard at work packaging and counting all the cards for charity.  Of course, it took longer than it should have done because we kept stopping every few seconds and saying... wow... did you see this one.  Hey, look how great this is!  Cool... why didn't I think of that!  So it ws a voyeurs delight getting to touch and admire all the cards that were sent one last time before they were sent off to charity.

Before we get to the count and the pics of the boxes, etc.  A card for you tonight - using Teeny Tiny Wishes and the Full Heart punch.

A few years ago I traced my genealogy and discovered that my grandparents on my father's side were Irish. Don't ask how I never knew that!  Anyway, I have been celebrating St Patty's day in earnest since then... especially as it also happens to be the day that Lou tried to propose to me in New York...but that's another story!  consequently, I decided to create a simple and easy St Patty's Day card for you based on the stamping411 sketch again this week.  It shows you how versatile the sketch is.

 

I punched the hearts out of Glorious Green card stock and covered them with Crystal Effects.  I left them to dry - they become really pliable.... stamped the sentiment, wrapped a piece of gold elastic cord twice around a piece of Naturals White card stock, adhered the hearts and voila.  My first St Patty's card.  Warning... the flecks you see don't mean that your screen needs cleaning!!!!  They are the flecks in the Naturals range of papers :-)

I wanted to show you some of the cards that we received for the drive.  These gorgeous cards are a selection from the ones sent in by Yvonne.  Please show Yvonne a little love and leave her a comment.

Yvonne used the Vintage Vogue and Well Scripted stamps for this lovely, soft feminine birthday card.  Creating a circle card with these elements works really well.

I love the tags on this :-)  really cute and the color combination works really well.  The scalloped edge helps to create visual interest and add to the feminine feel.

 

The use of the corner border punch, embossing, flowers and ribbon create a very special card.

Yvonne used great coloring to highlight the hat in the fabulous Garden from the Heart set.  You can really feel and see the heart that went into making this fabulous card.

I'll be showcasing a couple more of Yvonne's fabulous cards, along with others taken randomly from the boxes before we posted them.  Again... my thanks to everyone who participated.

NOW THE MOMENT YOU HAVE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR...... HOW MANY CARDS DID WE GET.... well.... thanks to the additions by Brenda - thank you Brenda... who donated almost 300 cards, I might tell you! the grand total of cards collected for the drive was

It was a very emotional moment when we had finally finished and counted the cards.  Here's a pic of my great ... and I mean that in the truest sense of the word... friends Brenda and Cherie as we were on the final leg of getting the cards ready.  When this pic was taken we were literally on the final 20 or so cards and were starting to clean up.  Oh yeah..... and we managed to do all of this without spilling a drop of wine!

 

Here are the cards all ready to go.  There are 50 cards per ziplock bag... and there is 1 bag that made it to the boxes after this pic was taken.

With All My Heart - winners showcase

Hi Everyone

Happy Tuesday night.  I have for you tonight a sampling of the cards that Hazel and he friends sent in for fromourhearts.  Hazel had read that they were looking for Mother's Day cards, so she got a couple of her friends together and they made Mother's Day cards for the troops to send home to their moms!  Love it!

So, with thanks to Hazel and the rest of your who participated, here is a sampling of the Mother's Day cards.  I know you will find lots of inspiration.

Here's the I {Heart} Heart stamp.  I love the way they positioned that hatch stamp over the punched stamp.  The sentiment is from All Holidays.

Love this Sending Love DSP.  The heart is from the I {heart} hearts and the sentiment is from All Holidays.  Love this pretty in pink and chocolate chip combo.  The little flower is from With All My Heart

Again, this gorgeous paper from Sending Love. The stamp in the middle of the flower is from With All My Heart.  The flower is, of course, the Extra Large Fancy Flower punch from the new mini.  I'm thinking I might have to get this one!!!  Sentiment from All Holidays.

Well, you all recognize the wonderful Fifth Avenue stamp.  I love the way this was done twice - the middle piece was cut out on the second image and raised above the first with dimensionals.  The embossing powder on the outer edges adds just the right amount of dimension.  I love this scallop border punch!  The sentiment is from Well Scripted.

Of course, you recognize the Beautiful Wings embosslit... I love these butterflies.  The background is the Perfect Polka Dot impressions folder

Lots of great inspiration for you tonight.  Congratulations again to Hazel on winning the Big Shot!  However, as you can see, Hazel has a Big Shot already, so has chosen to get Dies for her Big Shot instead!

I Heart Hearts Easel Valentine

Hi everyone

Firstly, to all of you who put Trish on your prayer list - thank you!  They worked!  Trish sent me an email today to let me know that she was back home and was on her way to recovery.  Which is such wonderful news.  Even though her recovery will take a little while, we are so glad to have her back with her crafting buddies.  So, thank you everyone!

Tonight's card is another card I made for the troop card drive.  It uses the I {Heart} Hearts set.  You know I love this easel layout - fall to layout I can hear you all say! :-)  This time I did something a little different.  I decided to decorate only the bottom of the front. You'll see what I mean.  Don't forget - the I {Heart} Heart set is a special set... for every purchase SU is donating $2.00 to the Haitian Relief efforts - more details here.

I wanted a very femine card with lots of hearts (mmmm... maybe that's why I used the I {Heart} Hearts stamp set :-)!!!  Don't forget, this set is available in both clear mount and wood mount... and is also available in French and Spanish! 

So here's what I used:

• Melon Mambo and Whisper White card stock
• Melon Mambo ink
• Pretty in Pink Ribbon (117289)
• I {Heart} Hearts (118571 clear mount, 117010 wood mount) and Well Scripted (118601 clear mount, 117072 (wood mount)
• I stamped the hearts and cut around them with my paper snips ( 103579)
• I snailed the outer hearts into place and then used my dimensionals for the middle heart.  I stamped two of the smaller hearts - punched them out with the Heart to Heart punch (113694) and glued them to the base of the easel.
• To create the easel, I used a piece of 4 1/4" x 11" Melon Mambo and I scored at the 5 1/2" and 1 1/4" positions.  I folded over the top piece at the 8 1/4" position and decorated only the bottom of the top half... I hope that makes sense.  
• For the middle of the card, I used Whisper White card base and cut it slightly smaller than the base.  I stamped the "love you much" sentiment and then snailed two of the hearts that I had punched out.  I adhered the Whisper White to the base of the card and then wrapped the ribbon and tied a bow.

Well... for those of you who have followed my husband's travels... and know that he was stuck for 48 hours+ trying to get home just before Christmas... well, Lou left yesterday morning for Argentina.  His plane left Minneapolis, but then turned around after about 30 minutes because the landing gear wouldn't come up.  So.. instead of going to Atlanta and then to Argentina, he went back to Minneapolis and caught a shuttle back home.  He spent last night at home instead of on the plane.  He left AGAIN this morning to repeat the process.... not realizing just how much of his trip he was going to repeat....... His flight to Minneapolis left without a hitch.  However, that's when things went haywire.  AGAIN....  His flight to Atlanta was delayed with Mechanical problems... get this... a flat battery!  How can a plane have a flat battery?  I mean, seriously!  So... they sat around and waited.  Eventually they cancelled that flight and he rushed to the next one.  He called me from the plane and left a message ..... I'm not the next flight and should make my connection.   Errrrrr... not so fast, honey.  About 30 minutes later he called me back.  Guess what?  Mechanical problems!  You are kidding me! 

So, his plane left 1 hour and 45 minutes late and he just called me from Atlanta - he completely missed his flight to Argentina.  So.. they knew he was going to miss it - as were several people who had been booked on the flight the previous day... but they wouldn't let them off!   So, the question is... what is Delta doing that they can have three aircraft - to the same destination - have mechanical problems ..... doesn't that make you worried about flying?  Now I know why DELTA was nicknamed, Doesn't Ever Leave The Airport!  So, what happens now?  Heaven only knows... Lou is on his way to the ticket counter to try to work out what is happening.  I'm beginning to think that someone is trying to tell Lou that he needs to stop flying!

Abundant Hope - Happy Easter

Hi Everyone.  Happy Sunday night and welcome to Jaydee's SU stampin' space.  

A quick post for you tonight and tomorrow I will be providing you more details on the Blog Candy #2 contents.  Some of you have already let me know that you will be participating in the card collection in order to be entered to win your very own Big Shot.  I'm very grateful to those of you who have already let me know, and hope that some of my other readers will join us.  As a reminder, we are looking to collect cards for children at Hopesandhugs.org and for troops to send home at fromourhearts.  All I need is at least 10 cards for either organization and you will be entered into the draw.

Today I got the chance to play around with my new goodies.  I'm so impressed with my new purchases that I was really inspired.  I saw the Abundant Hope set in the new mini and was blown away by it.  It's even nicer in real life!  I also got the clear mount option for this set and am loving the new acrylic blocks.  I love the fact that I get the same quality stamped image that I always get with my SU stamps and get to save on storage and cash.  If you already have acrylic blocks, you should find that they work for the new clear mount stamp option.  Otherwise, SU sells individual blocks, or a block of blocks :-)

I'm really looking forward to spring - and was, therefore, drawn to create a spring card.  It's been so cold for so long here, that, when it got to 7 degrees yesterday, I was running around thinking it was time for people to be wearing shorts! :-)  Now you know I've been living in Minnesota too long!

For the card tonight, I used the sketch challenge from the team at stamping411.  The sketch leaves you so much room for interpretation that I think it's great for just about any sort of card!

 

I took a shot of the card from a slightly lower angle than I normally would, because I wanted you to be able to see where I had pieced the flowers over the original.  Sometimes it's really hard to see that, but I found that when I went a little lower with my camera, I could show you that, and also that I had lifted the wings of the butterflies.

I love this stamp - have I told you that already :-)  I used multiple new items on this card for you.  So let me tell you how I built it.

Card recipe 

• Certainly Celery, So Saffron and Whisper White card stock
• DSP from the new Shades of Spring pack in the new mini (117160)
• Butterflies are from the new Beautiful Wings embosslits die (118138)
• Ribbon is the Whisper White taffeta ribbon (109070) (don't you love the bow on this card :-)?)
• The sentiment "Happy Easter" is from the Well Scripted set (118601 - clear mount and 117072 - wood mount)
• I used my wide oval punch to punch out the sentiment
• I used my So Saffron and Always Artichoke markers... I wanted the Green to be a slightly darker shade than the Certainly Celery on the card.  Jaydee tip:  I used my markers for the flowers, as I wanted the Yellow and Green on the set.  However, I wanted slightly more definition in the central parts of the flowers and I found that marking up my stamp with my marker allowed me to place a little more emphasis of ink where I needed it.  In contrast, if I had decided to stamp twice - once with just the green (and used the masking technique) and then again with the So Saffron ink..... I didn't get the same amount of emphasis and shading on the flower.  
• All that was left was to run my embosslit through my Big Shot, using the same paper I had used for the background.  Also, following the rule of uneven numbers.... the embosslit actually gives you 4 butterflies of the size I wanted (the bigger one was too big for this card)... so I did a 5th one by running my embosslit through again - and keeping the other butterflies in an old embossing powder bottle.... now I feel like a lepidotporist!
• All that was left was to assemble the card and stamp the inside.  Trish... I'm sorry, I didn't photograph the inside for you tonight... but I have some cards coming up where I have :-)
