Simple Friendship - Color Throwdown #52
27 July 2009
Hi Everyone! Happy Monday.
Something a little different today. I decided to tackle my first color throwdown challenge. I decided to combine it with another sketch challenge - this one from a midnight madness. I chose the Simple Friendship butterfly to highlight in these challenges. Both of these challenges took me way outside my comfort zone. Color challenge was Certainly Celery, Chocolate Chip and Perfect Plum. Colors I use - but never together. The sketch challenge also has more embellishments than I generally use.
I find it's worth doing the challenges to take me out of my comfort zone as this finished card is more "romantic" in feel than my normal style. I'd be interested to hear what you think about this card that forced me outside of both my comfort zones :-) I used the Simple Friendship butterfly for this card, after I realized that there were butterflies on the Cottage Wall designer series paper.
Jaydee tip: I used the medium flowers from the Pretties Kit. The flowers are white so you need to dye them. I decided to use two colors in the color challenge and put them onto the flowers with my Aqua Painter. I started with the lighter color - the Certainly Celery and once it was almost dry, added a little of the Perfect Plum around the edges. The Aqua Painter is the ideal tool for this, as it allowed me to get just the right amount of coverage that I wanted.
As always, thanks for visiting and spending a little time in my area of the stamping blogosphere. I wish you an inkspirational day filled with time to do the things you love - with those you love.
Peace
Jaydee
Card recipe: I used an A2 card turned vertically. The card is Perfect Plum. I used Cottage Wall DSP for the matting, which I scalloped using the scallop punch. I then stamped the image on Whisper White paper using the rock and roll technique. I inked in Perfect Plum, then gently rolled the edges in Chocolate Chip - just on the outer edges of the wings. I then used my Versamarker to cover the whole butterfly, then used Iridescent Ice embossing powder to add shimmer. The Chocolate Chip edges, just gave a little more depth. I used Whisper White satin ribbon and three flowers and half pearls from the pretties kit. I mounted the Cottage Wall paper on top of Chocolate Chip. I stamped the best wishes from the Short and Sweet set. I stamped it on Certainly Celery in Perfect Plum ink and scalloped the edge to match the other scallops. I finished it off with a brad from the pretties kit.
If you like the Simple Friendship butterfly, you may like my other card at this posting Simple Friendship 2 or this one. I think it's a very versatile set and you can always make the butterfly fit in with your color scheme. It's one of my all time favorite butterfly images.
