Happy Birthday - Star Balloons
04 January 2010
Hi Everyone. Happy Monday Night and welcome to Jaydee's SU stampin space, where it's still freezing cold:-)
Tonight's card is a masculine birthday card using Stem Sayings and the Small and Large Star Punches. I needed a masculine birthday card and decided to use the Stamping411 challenge layout this week, as well as the splitcoast stampers color challenge. The color challenge was to use three colors I have never put together on a card before! Barely Banana, Dusty Durango and Basic Grey - with a neutral of your choice! Wow. As I have made a new year resolution to try more challenges and force myself to use colors I don't normally use, doing the color challenges is a great way to achieve my goal! I really suggest you go check out the the stamping411 sketches and the splitcoast stampers color challenge for inspiration. I loved the sketch on 411 so much, that I made two cards I needed using the same sketch! You'll see them both this week!
I'm sorry that my pics aren't up to my normal standard. I managed to break both the globes from my photolights and the new one's aren't expected to be delivered until later this week. Consequently, I'm taking photos on my desk!
I was really pleased with the final outcome and thought that the colors worked really well together, much to my surprise.
I wanted to make the stars look like birthday balloons and tied them together with silver elastic cord. I also popped the "balloons" with dimensionals at the back, to give some dimensionality to them.
I stamped the "happy birthday" sentiment from the Stem Sayings set in Versamark and then used my white embossing powder and set it with my heat gun. To tie the top and bottom of the card together, I put a silver brad in between the two repetitions of "happy birthday". I also placed the balloons over the edge of the card a little and made my envelope just a little bigger to accommodate them.
A very quick and easy card and one that I think fits for males of all ages.
This year, I am determined to use the goodies in my collection that I don't use often. Like my punches, my wheels, a couple of my stamp sets... and colors! It's the only way I can justify putting an order in for more goodies tomorrow!
I'd like to give a shout out to Alison and Trish tonight. They are such great supporters of my blog and what I do - I am very grateful to them! Trish is a fellow demonstrator, and Alison is my regular visitor from South Africa. The great thing about my creative journey with SU, is that I have met so many amazing people through my hobby and my blog. So, Alison and Trish... thank you. You guys ROCK!
Have a fabulous Tuesday everyone.... tomorrow is my last day of vacation. SIGH! One more day to get things cleaned up and a couple of things to play around with.... oh... and an order to put into SU!
As always, thank you for visiting my little area of the stamping blogosphere, your visits are very much appreciated. Now... my challenge to you tonight.... go make a card and send it to someone you haven't seen for a while.... just because you can. Make this year a year to reach out and keep in touch - you never know what might happen.
Peace
Jaydee
