Happy Earth day - blog candy alert and Homage to Retiring Colors #4

Black and White with a Dash of Orange - homage to retiring colors # 3

Hi Everyone.  Happy Tuesday night.  I'm still trying to pay homage to some of our retiring colors; part of my New Year resolution to use colors I don't often give love to. Maybe if I'd given them a little more love they wouldn't be retiring :-)

I found another challenge site Play Date Cafe - isn't that the greatest name?  The challenge this week was to do a black and white card - with a dash of Orange.  How perfect. Especially as Only Orange is retiring!  As usual, i really suggest you go across to Play Date Cafe and check out the great inspiration and submission cards.  I have no doubt you will find something that inspires you!

I decided to bring out the Night and Day DSP and pair it with one of my favorite sets Bloomin Beautiful.  I love coloring in this set.

And no.. your eyes are not playing tricks on you with the white matt layer - I actually texturized the white matt layer with the new embossing folder from the Summer mini - the Square Lattice (119976).  Why?  I can hear you ask!  because (there I go again... sorry Mrs T!!!) when I tried a piece of plain white it seemed to distract, so I tried it with the texture and it looked much better!

So. How did I create this card:

Card stock:    Basic Black, Whisper White, Only Orange

DSP:    Night and Day

Stamps:  Bloomin Beautiful (111490)

Ink:   StazOn Black, Only Orange water color crayon, Only Orange marker (used to add depth)

Card sizes:

Card:    A2

Layer 1:    Whisper White 4"W  x 5" H

Layer 2:    Night and Day DSP 3 7/8"W 4 7/8"H

Layer 3:    Basic Black 3 1/4"W 4 1/8" H

Layer 4:    Only Orange 3 1/8"W x 4"H

Layer 5:    Whisper White  3"W  3 3/4"H

I stamped the image onto Layer 5 in Black Stazon.

I then stamped the sentiment onto a piece of Whisper White and cut it so that I could paste it over the bottom of the stem of the flower.  I adhered it to Layer 5 and adhered Layer 5 to Layer 4 with snail.

I cut a piece of grosgrain ribbon and tied it around Layer 4 and Layer 5. I adhered these to Layer 3 with dimensionals.

I colored the flower image using my water color crayon and then went in with my marker to add depth and dimension to the flower where it would be darker.

All in all a quick and easy card.  The hardest part was cutting the paper and, to be perfectly honest, with my SU table top cutter - it's a breeze.  I don't know about you, but I have bought multiple cutters over the years - all of them have been donated to Ronald McDonald.  I finally broke down and bought the table top wondering how I would cope with small pieces of paper.  So far... no problems.  I love the fact that it gives me crisp clean cuts with no fuzzing!

I hope you all have a fabulous night.  Me?  I have two more calls to do with colleagues in Asia tonight and then up very early in the morning to do calls with colleagues in Europe.  So.. unfortunately, no stamping tonight.

Have a fabulous Wednesday - happy hump day, Cherie :-)

As always, thank you for spending time in my little area of the stamping blogosphere.  You know your visits are much appreciated - as is your support.

Hugs

Jaydee
