Highlighting Eggplant and Birthday celebrations!

Hi Everyone.  Happy Wednesday night.  Oh yes... Friday is only a little way away.   I got down to my stamping room night.  I decided I HAD to take a break from work and go do something different.  Not just because I wanted to, but because I HAD to.  I was going stir crazy sitting at my desk, so I got up, took a walk to clear my head and get my joints moving, and then meandered down to my stamping space.

A huge thank you to all of you who commented, and a huge shout out to those of you who took up the challenge to try to determine the colors I had used on last night's card.  I know that many of you decided not to play along... BUT.. I'm guessing there was more than one of you checking out the guesses to see if they were right? :-)  More to come on that.

Tonight's card uses Close as a Memory.  I love this set.  I used the fabulous sketch across at stamping411 to create this card.

Before I show you the card though.... a HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHOUT OUT to Beverly and Ann.  Both of them celebrated birthday's in the last couple of day's.  In fact, if memory serves me right - Beverly's Birthday is today.  So happy, happy birthday to both of you.  Beverly, hope you got your goodies:-)

I sat down with this sketch, not quite knowing what I was going to do with it.  Or even what stamp set to use.  I always sit down with my catty and thumb through it until I find a stamp set that speaks to me.  Sometimes... I don't have the set, so just have to keep on thumbing:-)  I knew I wanted to use Elegant Eggplant, and decided that I would make a sympathy card.  I'm not sure about here, but purple is often used in sympathy wreaths, etc. in the UK.

As you can see, I used Elegant Eggplant, Very Vanilla and Black for this card.  I stamped the flower image in Elegant Eggplant and then used my Crystal Effects on the flowers and leaves.  I left that to dry whilst I worked on the rest of the card.

I used the striped grosgrain ribbon, but the black and white was too stark.  So, to counteract that, I took my marker and I "dyed" the white areas in Elegant Eggplant.  I just left the outer edges white.  This helped take the focus off the ribbon colors and also helped to tie the card together.

I decorated the inside of the card, too.  Often, when I make cards to send to friends as hello cards, etc. I don't decorate the inside... because I need the room to be able to accommodate my rather large handwriting!

Here's the inside of the card... just for you Trish 'cos I know you like to see the inside of the cards :-)

I stamped a partial flower image using Versamark in the bottom left and top right hand corners and stamped the sentiment in Elegant Eggplant.

The last thing I did - once the Crystal Elements was dry, was to stamp "With Sympathy" from the Teeny Tiny Wishes set, onto the front image of the card.  I loved using the sketch, especially as it is very versatile.

So.... now... I know you have all been wondering what the colors were used in last night's card.  I really know how difficult it is, because the colors show up on the screens so differently.  However, you all did really well.  Many of you were OH... OH... so close.... but the blues and sometimes the greens threw you... and the red confused many of you... which shows you how differently these colors all appear on our different screens.  Also, the color used to "ground" everything really didn't show up correctly on the screens.

So.... I put all of your names into a little bucket and Bilbo Baggins assisted me to draw out a winning name......  but... before we get to that...what were the actual colors?

Card stock:

Night of Navy, Gable Green, Bashful Blue, Ruby Red, Whisper White

Watercolors:

Certainly Celery (grounding color), Bordering Blue (for the big vase), Bashful Blue, Rose Red (for the red vase), Yoyo Yellow for the flowers.  Real Red for the centers of the flowers.  Always Artichokes for the stems.

The sentiment was white embossing powder.

AND>>>>  Bilbo Baggins chose Kadie as the spot prize winner!  Kadie, please could you email me your address and I will send you your goodies.

I'm thinking I might have another spot prize next week.  And don't forget, the rest of you are still entered into the draw for April 30!

As always, thank you for spending time in my little area of the stamping blogosphere.  Your visits, your support and your support for each other - is greatly appreciated.  You all are amazing people.

I wish you a Thursday filled with love, laughter and a chance to dance and sing as though no one is watching.  Carpe Diem.

Trish.... you know we are all praying for you as you face this decision.

Hugs

Jaydee

Beautiful! Love that ribbon you used. So pretty.

Beautiful card. I always use black for a sympathy card but now I will try some purple. I loved the bow. Did you use your marker to color it? It just ties everything together (he he).

Sending encouraging thoughts to Trish. Difficult decisions to be made. I pray God will be with you.

Happy birthday to all. Don't forget that this is your birthday month so celebrate till you drop!

Rach

I NEVER would have guessed Certainly Celery for the ground color. Well done! :o)

I love this card, the colors, everything about it. It would never have occurred to me to color the ribbon--what a smarty pants you are! And, I too shall be a smarty pants in the future thanks to your brilliant tip. :o)

Trish, my prayers continue to be with you. HUGS!

Beautiful! I love elegant eggplant! I like the way you decorated the inside of the card too.
You are making me want to stay home from work and stamp all day! Maybe there will be time later for that...
Thanks for sharing with us!

Cherie

I'm so thankful that you share your talent with us everyday. I know for certain that if I'd have made this card I would have left off the ribbon, then sat and looked and wondered what it was missing. But you, got it right the first time. Dying the ribbon and setting the bow off center is a totally Jaydee touch. I'm so happy to call such a talented and generous woman a friend.
Germain & Trish--wishing you a peaceful day full of love and support.
HAPPY day One & All!

Gorgeous! I love how you dyed the wide ribbon!

Kelli

I love the card. I love what you did with the ribbon to make it fit to your liking...very creative! I'm with Trish in that I also love the inside of a card. It's rare that I don't put something on the inside. Happy Thursday.

Another masterpiece from the very talented Jaydee! This card is stunning, gorgeous , beautiful....I could go on! I love the colors and the way you did that ribbon(plus the bow tying). One of these days I'm going to be able to tie a bow like that! LOL!
Trish-I am keeping you in my thoughts as you go through this very difficult time in your life! Decisions like what you are having to make are very difficult! Great card!!! I love your ribbon.

Germaine

As usual Jaydee, I love your card, it is simply beautiful, sadly I don't own this set, but may be I will, I have not been attracted to it as much! I am doing so much better, so all the prayers my dear cyber friends is helping, but I have to take care and not over do things, which is my style according to DH!! Dear Trish, will be thinking of you and sending you lots of positive energy your way! Happy Birthday wishes to Berverly and Ann! Enjoy your day ladies, and Congratulations to Kadie for being the winner! Hugs always! G

Terri

Oh bummer, I over analyzed yesterday's card again. Here I thought that you were mixing the colors in the Watercolors to come up with the beautiful shading that you did. I would never have guessed that Certainly Celery was your grounding color, I went back and forth between about 4 of them and finally picked a mix of 2 colors, but that was not one of them. You are very sneaky, indeed. Congratulation to you, Kadie, I hope you enjoy your prize.

On to today's card...Beautiful, simple and understated. I love the color you chose to use. Really neat idea on the Ribbon. At first glance I didn't even think it was an SU! Ribbon, because of the colors, but then I read on. Another sneaky trick of yours. Lol. I really do like the way the knot on the Ribbon turned out on this card, it looks super cool. Great job on that. I also like the little layer showing of the black cardstock it just pulls enough of the Ribbon out so that they go together. Your use of the Crystal Effects on the flowers is such a neat looking added touch. It does make the flowers "pop" so. I am going to have to remember that one. I don't use my Crystal Effects nearly enough. Another Winner in my book!

Thanks for yours and everyone else's continued support. It all means more to me than you will ever know. I pray for you all everyday.

Cyber hugs, Trish in Wisconsin
