Stampin! with Jaydee

Hi Everyone.  Happy Sunday night.

I hope your weekend was fabulous.  Tonight's card features one of SU's single stamps For Your Flower.  This card was created for the Pals Paper Arts - monochromatic purple challenge.  Monochromatic challenges are always great fun.  It becomes all about shades and textures. 

Here's my take on the challenge:

You can see that I used texture on the background and on the lower portion of the card.  Additionally, I created more layering and texture on the flower focal point - by stamping it twice and layering it off angle and adding little  half pearls.  The flower mimics the flower shapes on the embossed background.

Card recipe:  (all supplies Stampin' Up! unless specifically noted)

• Card stock:  Concord Crush and Whisper White
• Inks:  Concord Crush
• Accessories:  Concord Crush ribbon, Basic Pearls, In Colors DSP (level 1 hostess), Concord Crush In Color polyester ribbon
• Tools:  Big Shot, embossing folder (non-SU), paper snips, Fancy Flower Extra Large Punch

Card instructions:

• Cut Concord Crush to 11 x 4 1/4 scoring and folding at 5 1/2:.
• Cut a second piece of Concord Crush 4 x 3 1/2 and run through your Big Shot with your favorite embossing folder.  In this case the embossing folder is a birthday folder.  Adhere to card base using snail
• Cut a pice of DSP to 4 1/4 x 2 1/8 and adhere to card base
• Wrap Concord Crush ribbon around the card and adhere under where the flower will be placed
• Ink up the For You Flower stamp with Concord Crush and stamp.  Repeat.  Adhere the two flower pieces together using dimensionals - off-setting the petals
• Adhere these two flowers to the card base using Pop Up Glue Dots
• Last think you need to do - adhere the half pearls in the joins of the top flower

Tips:

• Adding texture and repeating elements or shapes is essential with a monochromatic card - it really is what adds the interest
• Adding dimension also helps - especially when you have a layer of ribbon beneath.  Adding a dimensional underneath the top layer and then pop up glue dots underneath the two flower images adds additional depth and more interest
• Don't forget to condition your stamp - especially with a stamp that has a lot of surface area

That's it.  You are done.  Very quick and very easy.  Additionally, it can be any color combo you want!

On a personal note:  well, today was an interesting day.  We went out to do a little shopping this afternoon and didn't get more than 1/8" of a mile.  We ran over a bicycle allen wrench and put a hole in the tire.  2 1/2 hours later we were back on the road.  By that time, it was really late in the afternoon.  Well, at least Lou has an Allen wrench for his bike.  Well, he's never bought one of these particular Allen wrenches because he didn't need one.... however, for the cost of the repaired tire - at least he got something from it :-)

On the other hand.... our dinner was the result of our trip to the Farmer's Market yesterday.  Fabulous purple carrots, divine cucumber, Arugula salad and bread and rustic cheddar cheese from our local deli.  Fabulous!
