Just for You - Moxie Sunday & SU News
Not Technique Tuesday

All wrapped up

Hi Everyone.  Happy Monday night.  I hope you all had a great weekend.

I am pleased to report... Huston.... we have heat..... YEP!!!! Finally, we have a working furnace and it is pushing out warm air!  Oh Yeah!  Now, I have to admit, we tend to keep the house cool - as Brenda will attest :-)  Generally in winter it is set to about 62 degrees.  So, cold by many standards, but perfect for us.  However, the house, without the furnace, as been down as low as 45.  Now, that, is too cold.  Even for me!  I am hoping that by tomorrow morning the floors will have warmed up.

I saw the challenge across at Pals Paper Arts this week, and couldn't resist it.  A clean and simple card featuring ribbon and/or fabric.  I ended up using both!  Don't forget to pop along and see the great inspiration cards from the design team.  I know you will find something to CASE.

When Lou and I were travelling around the New Forest in England, we came out of a shop that we had visited looking for a map and bumped straight into a tiny little craft store.  I wasn't going to go in, but Lou forced me.  Yep, he did.  Really.  He dragged me in there kicking and screaming yelling that I really didn't need any more crafting stuff.  And if you believe that... Then I have a great expanse of land to sell you in the North Pole :-)

I did buy a couple of things, one of them these fabric brads.  I thought this was the perfect finishing touch for my card.

I really wanted to make a CAS card focused on a present.  I used the Vintage Wallpaper embossing folder to create the "parcel" and then used some of the Seam Binding ribbon to wrap around the "parcel".  The finishing touch was making my "gift box bow".  If you want to know I made that - you can check the video at this link.  It's a really bow to make and works perfectly on this card.

I stamped the reindeer and to: and from: images onto an oval and glued it behind the bow.  I really love the way the brad sets off the bow.

I really enjoyed this challenge, because it is so rare that we get to make the ribbon the star of the show.

Card recipe - all supplies Stampin' Up! unless otherwise noted:

  • Card stock:  Very Vanilla, real Red
  • Stamps:  Winter Post
  • Accessories:  Very Vanilla seam binding ribbon, Vintage Wallpaper embossing folder, fabric brad (non SU)
  • Tools:  Big Shot, Stampin Dimensionals, Snail, Crystal Effects (to secure the bow) and also to secure the brad, oval punch

Card instructions:

  • Cut card stock to 4 1/2 x 9.  With the fold at the top
  • Cut a piece of Real Red card stock just a little larger than the final piece.  (this is because I like to be able to cut the pattern the way I want it).  The finished size of the red "parcel" is 3 x 3.
  • Wrap two pieces of seam binding ribbon around the "parcel" - one horizontal and one vertical.  secure to the back of the parcel.
  • Create how and adhere to the card
  • Cut the "legs" off the brad and secure to the middle of the ribbon using Crystal Effects.
  • Stamp reindeer and sentiment onto a piece of Very Vanilla card stock and slip under the bow
  • Apply Stampin' Dimensionals behind the parcel and adhere in the middle of the card base

On a personal note... every day I feel a little better, but Lou is not feeling so good.  He comes home on Wednesday.  He's been gone a lot recently - in fact he's been home only 4 days in over 2 months.  Luckily he will be back this weekend to help me to start re-arranging the basement to get ready for the replacement of the sheet rock, etc.

We will find time this week though, to say thanks!  I think we have a lot to be thankful for.  I'm also hoping to get time to do some more stamping.  I have actually enjoyed playing this week.  3 weeks without crafting is tough :-)

Continued prayers for those of you who need a little lift.  Jeanne, my thoughts are with you today. A big virtual hug for you.

Remember, smile at a stranger - it may change their life.

Hugs

Jaydee
