Word Play - Valentine

Hi Everyone.  Happy Mondy night.  I hope you all had a fabulous weekend.

Me?  I had a great weekend, but today was not one of my better days.  Sometimes, work just gets to you and today was one of those days!

One of my new year resolutions - or goals, as Rach will rightly call them, was to push my envelope creatively.  Color challenges do that for me.  And... really... that's a good thing!  I saw the challenge across at colordare.  Poppy Parade, So Saffron and Very Vanilla.  Now, many of my blog regulars will know that it is VERY rare that you see Poppy Parade on my blog - and a little less rare to see So Saffron.  They are both fantastic colors.  They are bright and fresh and very much on trend.  However, they aren't my go to colors.  Imagine my surprise when I found that I actually enjoyed playing with these colors and that they took me way outside of my comfort zone.

Then, I went looking for a sketch challenge.  I visited the talented team across at stamping411 and they have this really versatile sketch challenge this week.  You can see that instead of using two different DSPs for the background layer, I chose to do the bottom half of the card embossed and leave the top half in the natural state card stock.  I also decided to change out the square and put hearts in their place.  It's a really cool sketch and I have plans to use it again this week.

You know the drill, pop along to both of these fabulous sites and check out the wonderful design team inspiration and submission cards.  I know you will find something that inspires you to play along or case.

I decided to play with the Valentine/love theme using these different colors.  One of my other new year gols?  Use some of the products that I have bought and never get enough love.  Therefore, I brought out the Word Play set and the Hearts Sizzlits die set.

Here's what I came up with - another card with lots of "white space" - except, in this case, it's poppy parade space :-)

  Colordare (2)

Card recipe - all ingredients Stampin' Up! unless otherwise noted:

  • Card stock:  Very Vanilla, So Saffron, Poppy Parad
  • Stamps:  Word Play (120651 clear, 120308 wood)
  • Accessories:  Subtles buttons (1129745).  Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder (117335), Hearts Set Sizzliets 4-pack dies (113488).  Large hearts nesties (non SU).  Hemp twin (100982)
  • Inks:  Poppy Parade

On a personal note:  a couple more shout outs tonight - carrying on the theme from last night.  It's amazing where my blog friends are located.  Some are local here in the mid-west. Some are across the border in Canada, some are across the Atlantic - and then there are those across the Pacific.  the one great thing about the internet, it really does make the world feel so much smaller with so many amazing people out there.  Shout outs tonight for the following amazing ladies:  Terri, Ann, Doris, Germaine, Jan A,  and Germaine.  Ladies who are close and some that are in other continents.  Regardless of where they are - I appreciate them all.    More shout outs to you wonderful bloggers tomorrow night.

Prayers tonight for Rose.  For Mary Jo who goes in for her operation tomorrow.  Adelle, Maria, Vickie, Germaine and Pri.  Brien is doing so much better, so is being taken of our prayer list.  Thanks to those who added him to your prayer list.

Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone and, as always, thank you for your visit.

I love this card! Tomorrow I go on a search for heart nestabilities. Maybe I can find them before V-day. Wish me luck!!!

I never would have imagined how beautiful those colors would be together. Great job, Jaydee! Thanks for the inspiration.

Fabulous big hearts on this beauty! Thanks for playing along this week :)

Very cute . . . got to pull the cricut out for the bigger hearts. Thanks for sharing Jaydee. Hope you have a better day today at work.

Good morning all!

Jaydee, your comment on my blog resonated with me this morning--that coffee *sure* did smell wonderful as it was brewing. It was a long night...

I just adore Poppy Parade, but I haven't used it much. I think of it as more of a spring and summer color. Therefore, I think it's amazing you created such a fun card with it--I know it's not one of MY go-to colors this time of year. :o) It really is such a bright and cheery color, I hope it helped lift you above the cruddy day.

You have created a wonderful community here, Jaydee. You invite us all in, treat us to beautiful cards and inspire us to stretch our wings creatively speaking. Thank you for all YOU do to make this a welcoming place we all look forward to visiting. :o)

Hugs, and prayers for all in need.

Jaydee, this is wonderful! I love that sentiment, it's my fav in the set, and I agree about Poppy--ick---but you made it look good!

Poppy Parade and So Saffron? Hmmmm, I HAVE got to start doing challanges! After I finish the challange of my taxes I must get going on this new goal. Thank you so much for the daily dose of insperation. I do check in everyday and even though I don't always get a chance to comment please know how much I appreciate all you do for your blog friends. I always click off with a smile and better attitude for the day. Thank you my friend!
Warm thoughts and prayers to all those in need and wishes for a wonderful day to One & All.
