Hi Everyone, welcome to day 2 of the 45 minute card challenge. Tonight's card took up every single second of those 45 minutes.
The challenge across at the splitcoaststampers virtual stamp night was called "x marks the spot" - for x marking the spot on a pirate map. Very clever! Anyway, the challenge was to make an X card. I've never made one before, consequently, it really did take me every second of the 45 minutes that we were allotted.
If you have never made an X card - you can find the splitcoaststampers tutorial right here. I decided to bring out the Fabulous Florets, ink it up with my markers and use the Beyond the Gardens DSP. It created a wonderfully, summery card. I also used a strip of the DSP for the top of the plain insert in the X.
Here's what I came up with:
You can see that I didn't quite cut the DSP to the right size. grrr! But, with a 45 minute deadline to make the card, I didn't have time to go back and fix it! I was pretty pleased with it for me first time though! You can make either a vertical or horizontal x card. I preferred the vertical.
Card recipe - all ingredients Stampin Up unless otherwise noted:
- Card stock: Peach Parfat, Whisper White
- DSP: Beyond the Garden
- Stamps: Fabulous Florets. Sentiment is from the "You're a Gem" set
- The ovals were cut using nestabilities
- Inks: Always Artichoke, Peach Parfait. Cajun Craze was used for the sentiment
On a personal note:
We managed to use the new range for baking little pastries last night. They have never come out that good before! Still can't use the stove top until the new pans arrive. Unlike Margaret (who was way ahead of her time!!!) we don't use Le Crueset. Our old Calphalon pans will not work on the new stove, so we had to buy induction pans. They should be arriving today. I can't wait to try them out. I'll let you know how it goes. In fact, I spent a little time on the deck last night looking through my Yotam Ottlolenghi cookbook to find some new recipes to try now that I have a range that actually works properly. I'm looking forward to doing some special meals when I have a few days off next week.
Talking about next week - we get to see the sneak peeks a week from tomorrow. I can't wait. I am really excited about what new goodies will be in the SU catty. I loved some of the sets in this current mini, so am hoping that is a harbinger of things to come.
Continued prayers for those affected by the storms. The pictures on the internet break my heart. Prayers too for those of you who need a warm hug or a little lift.
Have a fabulous Wednesday everyone.
Hugs
Jaydee
Great colors and layout. I love the x cards. I made 50 for a shower invitations early in my stamping career. I love the weight of them-really classy. Your card reminds me to do one again!
Glad you have gotten to use your new oven. Hopefully the pans will come before the week end so you can have time to play.

Beautiful card Jaydee! I have never made an "X" card. Maybe I just need to try it huh?
My commenting has been sporatic lately so I didn't know you were having problems with your oven! Congratulations on your new one!
Prayers to all the people who have been affected by the deadly storms/tornadoes. My heart goes out to them. Also prayers to all who are in need.

This IS a delightfully summery card! The Always Artichoke was the perfect green for using with the Peach Parfait. :o)
I've not made an X card since I first began stamping. Maybe I should play around sometime...:o)
How fun to use the new oven! I can't wait to hear all about using the range as well and the fun recipes you try out. Mm. :o) That mushroom and herb polenta was AMAZING.
Did you hear that Joplin was under yet another tornado watch? My heart breaks. :o(
Prayers for those in need and hugs.
