Nature Walk for Just Add Ink
26 June 2011
Hi Everyone. Happy Sunday night. I hope you all had a great weekend. I don't normally post to my blog on Sunday, but as I did have a few challenge cards, I thought I would post tonight!
I managed to spend some time in my stamping space this weekend and got the time to try out some challenges and to force myself to do different things! Oh..... brother! That's always tough for me. I also forced myself to use products that I don't use very often, like Nature Walk. In fact, I forced myself to use this set for two different challenges this week!
Just Add Ink has a sketch challenge. I think it's a pretty cool sketch and had some ideas on how to use it in its original form, but then decided to turn it 180 degrees instead. Don't forget to click the link and pop along and see the great design team and submission cards. I also think they would appreciate it if you played along :-)
Now... my regular blog readers know that I am passionate about nature and love the little bird haven we have managed to create in our garden. So, it's no surprise that I am not particularly fond of birds in cages.
I couldn't wait to use this opportunity to play the bird image from Nature Walk with the bird cage image from the Botanical Gazette DSP. Then add a title that I thought was fitting. I tried to place the sentiment a little higher, but if I had done that then the bird would have covered up the birdcage!
Then, of course, I had to give him a little ribbon road to freedom! :-) Then, a little button that looks like a wonderful bread bun, just waiting to be eaten! I was actually quite pleased with how it turned out. I love the color combo and it is certainly one I have never used before. Here are the deets. All ingredients Stampin' Up! unless otherwise noted.
- Card stock: Bravo Burgundy, Confetti
- Stamps: Bird: Nature Walk. Sentiment: Papertrey
- DSP: Botanical Gazette
- Accessories: Crumb Cake Seam Binding Ribbon. Neutrals button. Baker's Twine. Basic Pearl colored with Sharpie and applied as the eye.
- Inks: Sentiment - Bravo Burgundy. Bird colored with Copics
Tip:
- I love the SU Basic Pearls. The smallest pearls are perfect for details like the eye of the bird. I took a Sharpie pen and colored the pearl. Let the ink dry and then applied it right over the eye. It really helps to give life to the bird.
- The Confetti card stock works really well with this color scheme. It has little confetti flecks of color in it that contain both burgundy and blue. I rarely use this card stock - and need to remind myself to use it. It's also softer than the Very Vanilla, so it blends much better.
So, what do you think? What do you think of the color combo? I think it's one I may have to try again!
On a personal note:
It was good to be able to spend some time relaxing this weekend and giving my goodies a little ink love. Charlie is my constant companion and is pretty much never out of my sight. So long as he can see me, he's happy to find somewhere comfortable and just relax. It's awfully sweet!
It rained again today - but once again the temperatures are pretty cool. I hope that some of this cooler, wetter weather goes East and South.
I also put on some of the wonderful cucumbers that we got at the market into a pot with some walla walla onions and some organic vegetable stock and cooked them up. Once they are cold, I will liquidize them and mix them with zero fat organic Greek yogurt. Yummy, chilled cucumber soup... it's one of my favorites in summer.
I also made up my list of things that I want from the new catty. Yep, ordering is just around the corner. There are a few things that I definitely want from the catty. A few stamp sets, some more of the fabulous new In Color card stock and DSP - with the matching brads! There is also two lots of DSP that I want - I can't wait to get my hands on them!
Hugs and prayers tonight for those of you who need a little lift.
As always, thank you so much for spending time in my little area of the stamping blogosphere. Your visits - and your comments - are greatly appreciated.
Shout out to my honey tonight..... Hey Handsome! Hurry home!
Hugs
Jaydee
