Hi Everyone. Happy Tuesday night.
Tonight's card is one of the swaps I made for convention. I only did 20 of them, but it turned out to be one of the favorite swaps. I used the Simply Soft set from the new catty. It's such a pretty set and I really enjoyed coloring the image and love the way the colors work together. I really do think that Wisteria Wonder and Concord Crush are a marriage made in heaven. This is the mock up I made... my prototype, so to speak. I didn't hand this one out 'cos the sentiment was quite right, and it wasn't quite straight... also.. there wasn't quite enough color on the background. But, even though it's not as good as the final ones, I still think it's pretty. It's OK to think your own cards are pretty occasionally, right :-)
This card certainly has the power of 3's. 3 flowers. 3 colors (not including the white). 3 pearls!
I am really in love with the Friendly Phrases set and felt that the informality of the sentiment font worked so well with the images. I used my markers to color the images and the tea stain ink (from the distressing kit) for the background, along with a little so saffron.
Card recipe - all ingredients Stampin' Up! unless otherwise noted:
- Stamp sets: Simply Soft, Friendly Phrases
- Inks: Concord Crush, Wisteria Wonder, Lucky Limeade, tea stain
- Accessories: Wisteria Wonder ruffled ribbon, basic pearls
So, what do you think? I thought it was very pretty. I've used this layout a lot over the years and it certainly is one of my fall to layouts.
On a personal note.
Last night on my blog I talked death. I saw a story on MSNBC today that really struck such an incredible chord with me. It's a sad, but incredibly heartwarming story. A story of a young lady who wanted to help others instead of receiving birthday presents. Of course, I had to stop what I was doing and check out the story. I wanted to share it with you. If you haven't seen this story, check it out. It's proof that there is immense hope for our future when young people care so much about others. A story of a wonderful young lady and a family who must be so proud. Here's Rachel's story. Of course, I had to donate! Check it out.... she really is inspiring!
One last thing to share... poor Lou... not only did it take him 48 hours to get from Minneapolis to Hong Kong...he's now got a little stomach bug.... So you can add that to his list of the events that he endured on his trip over! Here's what took 48 hours! Seriously, think someone was trying to tell him something? :-)
- Late out of MSP due to bad storms and late arrival of connecting flight from Denver.
- Had to divert way to the east out of MSP to avoid storms and air traffic. This caused us to use up way more fuel than anticipated
- Had an engine mechanical issue half way across the pacific
- Had to land the plane in Sapporo (northern Japan) to refuel and do repairs to the engine (luckily there's a QUIKTRIP at Sapporo Airport.
- Sat on the Tarmac for 4 hours - Mechanic took 2 hours to arrive at airport. Not allowed to get off plane.
- Got to Narita at 10:00pm last Sunday night. Was supposed to arrive at 5:00pm.
- Missed connecting flight to HK. - duh
- Settled in to hotel overnight near Narita Airport. At least its free.
- 3:00am in the morning an earth quake hit Narita...tremors last for 15-20 seconds. My bed felt like it was on a roller coaster. Had it confirmed when I checked out.
- Finally got to my flight at Narita leaving at 10:30am
- Arrived in HK at 2:00pm.
- Arrived at Hotel at 4:00pm
- No Clean room so had to wait an hour for room to become available. My clothes are walking themselves to the closet!
I am going to finish tonight's post with another video that was shared with me. Oh boy.... this is such a well done video. I know you dog lovers - and animal lovers - will appreciate this. I stayed right til the end to see the waitress take away the plates. Dogs having dinner.
As always, thank you for your visit - and your comments.... Prayers to those of you who need a little lift tonight.
Hugs
Jaydee
P.S. Soozie..... the OWH drive... details are here It will be fabulous if you can spare some more cards!
Jaydee,
This is gorgeous! I totally missed this stamp set in the catty. YOU should design for the catalog because then I wouldn't miss these cool sets!
Poor Lou! This is a horrible story. Really hoping he is feeling better now. Bless his heart!
Glad to hear your leg is a little bit better. Continued prayers for healing.

Beautiful colors. Something I need to try! I love this layout and the stamp set.
Sorry to hear about Lou. Traveling is so difficult but what a horrible trip. Sounds like everything that could have gone wrong did.

You are right...this is a stunning color combination! I really need to get that stamp set...I have seen so many gorgeous cards created with it! And poor, poor Lou! There are few things worse than being sick when traveling. As for the dogs, I had seen this before. It is just adorable! What well trained furbabies!

Love the card and everything about it . . . the colors, the 3's items, the layout and of course the final thing is ... you made it and it is special. I sure hope that whomever swapped with you appreciates the card. I didn't get to swap with ya! hahaha : ) Thanks for sharing with us.
Yes, I would say poor Lou...wow! Yes, time to retire is what they are telling him. Have a great day!

That absolutely is a pretty card, Jaydee. :o) I agree, the CC and WW look lovely together, and that is a beautiful stamp set.
I had read about Rachel's story a couple of days ago when the donations were "only" at $70,000--they are much higher now, and I too have contributed. What an amazing story. That little girl will live on in memories forever. Incredible, truly an incredible child.
Lou, I think that is, without a doubt, one of the worst travel stories I have ever heard. To top it off with a stomach bug is simply unbelievable. :o( I hope you feel better quickly and your return trip is a little less...um...*interesting*.
And, finally, Jaydee, those are two of the most patient dogs I've ever seen. Hee hee. Thanks for sharing!
Hugs!
