Hi Everyone. Happy Monday.
As y'all know, I haven't had much chance to make cards these past couple of weeks. I did, however, find a couple in my stash that I had not shared with you.
Tonight's card was made using a version of the embossed resist technique. The difference here is that the image is mostly embossed, with only a few areas where the embossing does not cover the entire card. These small negative spaces make for wonderful areas to add just a touch of color and I had great fun choosing some colors to go over this fabulous image.
It also gave me a great excuse to pull out River Rock - not my go to green. But... I decided I really do love it. The Crumb Cake ribbon is just different enough to add another touch of color. The edge of the button was colored using a copic marker.
Now... many of you may be wondering where I learned all these cool techniques.... Well, I have been waiting to show some more of them before revealing my source. When I was in my crafting slump a couple of weeks ago, I really just had no mojo and started to play around with techniques as a way to get out of it. After a couple of go rounds with ideas, I stumbled upon a class being offered by Jennifer McGuire. Now, I had no idea who Jennifer was, (I know.. gasp!) but thought.... hey... let me check this out. Well, I can honestly say that her on-line course was fabulous. If you haven't checked it out, and are looking for some inspiration with techniques, or looking for another view of some of the techniques you have already used, check out this link INSPIRATION SHOWCASE.
It was absolutely well worth the money and I learned some new techniques, as well as the ones that I had already played around with. I thoroughly enjoyed the class and loved the projects that Jennifer showcased.
Now, on to tonight's card:
You can see that I used the Wonderfully Worn background stamp on the River Rock base. It's a great stamp for adding a little distressed type texture and works perfectly with a clean and simple card. I heat embossed the image and than used a sponge dauber and some inks to color in the negative spaces. The residual ink was removed with a slightly damp paper towel. All I needed was a little bit of twine tied through the button.
Now, Jennifer has a great tip on securing buttons to the card stock. After she has adhered them using the normal glue dots, etc, she adds just a couple of touches of Crystal Effects - or similar product - under the button. This really helps to secure it before putting it in the post.
On a personal note
Merlin continues to fight. He's not eating which is the biggest problem. The vet looks to be putting him on an appetite pill tonight to see if that will help. Right now I am force feeding him and he hates it. We both end up wearing more of the food than he ends up eating! Lets hope that this pill will help him.
Right, back off to work! Warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a lift tonight and thank you again to those of you who have left messages of support for Merlin!
Hugs
Jaydee
Pammie... extra big hugs to you, my friend.
I love this amazing emboss resist card with just touches of colour Jaydee - it's a great technique! I'm so sorry to hear about Merlin's illness and it sounds as if you've had a tough old time with the others being ill too and your husband away. I do hope the appetite pill works well and that he pulls through to be grumpy another day.
You asked about the St Lukes Charity Challenge. I read about it on another challenge blog and felt it needed some support. I have a big thing about people having the right to be born and also to die with dignity and these hospices do incredible work. Sheffield - Buckingham - it's all just geography!
Hugs from the UK,
Vicky

I never see River Rock as a green, really, until I come to your blog. It's always a more tan color to me. And yet, it really IS green. And, it truly is such a versatile color.
All of this to say, I LOVE it with the orange!! I'm going to have to use this color combo sometime soon...you know, when my mojo returns and I start making cards again...Oy.
Oh dear. I was hoping to hear Merlin was progressing a little more than that. You hang in there.
Many hugs!
P.S. Hiya, Lou!
