Hi Everyone. Happy Wednesday. Oh... yes.... it's half-way through the week and we are now on the downhill to the weekend :-)
The challenge across at JUGS this week really caught me attention.
This was a challenge for me because I ALWAYS.... well, just about always color in my line image stamps. This challenge got me thinking about how I could add the punch of color without the obvious way of coloring in the image. I knew that I wanted to keep it clean and simple. This is what I came up with
I used the new SU In Color, Raspberry Ripple. It's a very pretty color and works well with the white. In order to get more interest, I inked up a chevron stamp, stamped it off, and then stamped it over the textured card stock. You can see that it hits stronger in some places than others because of the stamp off technique and creates an almost linen feel. I then added the sentiment - stamped in Basic Black for contrast. The final touch was the mat of Raspberry Ripple card stock behind the textured Whisper White card stock. Of course, I couldn't resist the pearl in the middle of the flower. I really tried to go without it....but... I ended up putting it on at the very last minute.
I fussy cut around the flower and popped both it, and the sentiment, on Stampin' Dimensionals. The other layers were all glued down. The sentiment popped from the base helps create a shadow line and a little more interest than if it had been adhered directly to the base. In the end, I was quite pleased with the card and loved the Raspberry Ripple and Whisper White combo.
On a personal note
Well, the weather dropped almost 30 degrees. It was in the 90s yesterday and 69 as a high today. We also got some much needed rain. It really has been so dry and it was good to feel some moisture in the air.
I did have to go rescue two snakes yesterday! Lou has been the one who has seen all the snakes, somehow I had missed seeing them. Yesterday morning, I saw a small Plains Garter Snake and then in the afternoon, I saw a much larger - about 20 inches - Plains Garter crossing the road. He was doing a "sidewinder" impersonation and taking forever to cross the road. I was really worried about the cars and trucks that have been turning around in our cul de sac and worried that one of them might run him over. So, I left one of my interminable conference calls and went out into the road to rescue him. With the help of a stick, I managed to get him across the road, into the spare lots across the road, and he was off to safety. So, I was really pleased that the two of them had managed to go about their day safe and sound.
For the last couple of days I have watched two red squirrels bury acorns in our front lawn. I wasn't in the least bit surprised to see the blue jay - the opportunistic blue jay - uncover a couple of them today and have a snack! Watching the animals is certainly a great diversion from dreary calls :-)
As always - thank you for your visit - and your comments. Warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.
Have a beautiful Thursday
Hugs
Jaydee
Card recipe - all ingredients Stampin' Up! unless otherwise noted:
- Card stock: Whisper White, Raspberry Ripple
- Inks: Raspberry Ripple, Basic Black

Very lovely, Jaydee. I too typically color in my line images so this would be a HUGE challenge for me. You met that challenge beautifully. :o) I really like the Raspberry Ripple with the white, and I like the way that chevron came out on the textured card stock--it definitely adds color and interest AND it ties it all together.
So you went adventuring and snake rescuing, huh? I uncovered a teeny weeny brown snake in my weed pulling efforts on Monday and just covered him right back up. I also scared up a couple of skinks. However, none of my creatures were in any sort of peril.
I'm so glad you have that window to enjoy nature when you're stuck on LONG conference calls. How fun to watch the red squirrels. All we have around here are big fat grey squirrels, no no fun red squirrels.
Hugs!
P.S. Hello, Lou! I hope you're doing well. :o)
