Little Miss Sunshine
18 April 2013
Hi Everyone. Happy Thursday.
Quick post for you tonight. I saw a great theme challenge across at simplylessismore. The challenge is to create a one layer card with a theme of FILM. Well, that led me straight to a set that I have had in my cupboard for a while and not used. I love one layer cards, but rarely create them so this was a great challenge!
Here's my take on the challenge
Perfect sentiment for the movie "Little Miss Sunshine" don't you think? :-)
Appropriate choice of themes considering we have watched three movies at the Minneapolis International Film Festival. So far we have seen an English movie, a Scottish movie and a South African movie. We have about 8 more to go! We love going to see these movies as they mostly pretty low budget movies covering a set of topics not often seen in big budget movies. The South African movie was called Lucky - about a little boy who lost his mother to AIDS and ends up making friends in the most unlikely of places. AIDS orphans are a tragic set of children. Many of them are homeless and have no where to go. The AIDS epedemic in South Africa was exacerbated by the government refusing to acknowledge the existence of the disease, or the rate at which it was growing. It's made all the worse by the fact that the medicines that could help prolong life, or save lives, is unaffordable. This movie covered this topic superficially, but it was heartwarming in it's ability to connect the unlikelist of friends who communicated without being able to speak each other's language.
The next movie was Unfinished Song. It covers the loss of a loved one after many years of marriage. Vanessa Redgrave and Terence Stamp were amazing. It was heartwarming, funny, sad and uplifting.
Our other movie was Angel's Share. A fairly raw movie about a young man caught in a spiral of poverty and petty crime, who discovers a talent and uses that as a way to improve his lot in life, and the life of his new born child. Don't watch it if you don't like foul language! That aside, it was a fabulous movie.
So, that's what we were doing last night.... and that's why I didn't get to post my card!
As always, thanks for visiting my blog. Warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight. Special prayers for Beverlee and those affected by the events in Boston.
I'll be back tomorrow with another card.
Hugs
Jaydee
P.S. We are in the middle of yet another snow storm. 5-8 inches expected. The robin, the phoebe and the red-shouldered blackbirds are wandering around wondering where they got lost on their migration north!!!!
