Hi Everyone. Happy Saturday.
Well, I had intended to play with my new goodies when they arrived yesterday. However, the man in brown only arrived at 6.40pm! I cannot tell you how long yesterday was waiting for him to arrive. By the time he FINALLY got here, it was too late to get everything unpacked and make a card. I only got a little time in my stamping space today and it was to make my card for the Paper Players Challenge.
The fabulous Ann has a great sketch this week. The design team all did very different things with it. I do hope you will pop along to each other their blogs and also come and play along with us.
Here's the sketch
The sketch was a great excuse for me to dip into some of my newly arrived DSP. I loved the look of the Quatrefancy Speciality DSP when I saw it in the catalog. The fact that it has a matching embossing folder was perfect for my challenge. :-)
This particular sheet of DSP has Pool Party and Island Indigo and that was the starting point for my color scheme. I decided to use a new set that came with my goodies yesterday. It isn't new to the 2013/2014 catalog, but it was one that I had completely bypassed in the last catalog. Something about its placement in the new one made it catch my eye. Actually, there is a LOT that caught my eye in the new catalog. I REALLY have a long list of goodies that I will be purchasing when the catalog goes live.
I stamped the image in Stazon onto watercolor paper and used my paint brushes to color in the image. I used Daffodil Delight for the bird. Cajun Craze for his beak. Soft Suede for the nest and Pool Party all the way around the image.
If you look closely, you can see the embossing from the folder on the round component behind the focal image.
The folder matches the pattern on the DSP, too!
I tried to get a closeup to show you both
It's really such a pretty sheet of DSP. I love the little pops of Island Indigo with the crispness of the white. I do love the little birdie sitting on her nest, too!
Don't forget to visit the design team. You can check out all of their cards on the Paper Players website and it has links to their blogs from there.
On a personal note:
SUN. WARMTH. Oh, yeah! I sat on the porch yesterday afternoon waiting for the UPS guy and could feel the warmth of the sun on my skin. The birds were singing, the spring peepers were peeping and the Phoebe was calling his distinctive call and the mourning doves were cooing. It was wonderful. Finally, temps above the 40s. We even managed to put our furniture on the deck and sit there for a short while yesterday afternoon. As I type this post, it is 76 degrees outside. Yep, we went from the 40s to the 70s and are going back to the 40s, with snow, later in the week! Spring is one of my favorite times of the year, but I always tell my friends in England, that you have never really appreciated Spring until you have experienced a 5+ month winter in Minnesota!
Well, I am off to unpack the rest of my goodies and put them away. I also have to sort out the new colors and in colors and get rid of some of the retiring colors that I will not miss - like Certainly Celery! Then, I am going to spend a few minutes sitting on the porch enjoying everything that Mother Nature has in store for me this afternoon.
I should be able to get into my stamping room tomorrow. Lou is doing a 50 mile bike ride in the morning and I decided to stay home and play rather than go along and cheer him on. He said he was totally OK with that, especially as I'd only see him for a nonosecond anyway as he whizzed past me :-)
Warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.
