Hi Everyone. Happy Monday.
Firstly, my apologies to Carol and Beth. I mixed up their OWH cards on last night's post. I had incorrectly listed it as Beth's card, when the beautiful butterfly creation was the work of Carol. To make up for that, I am featuring one of Beth's actual cards and another card for Carol! Sorry ladies!
Before I share those fabulous creations though, I'd like to start with another card for Just Add Ink mixed with the sketch from retrosketches. As a reminder, the Just Add Ink challenge was FRAMES - any kind of frame. Last night I showed you the card I made with a bicycle frame and tonight was inspired by some DSP I had that has cameras on it. When I saw it I was reminded of photo frames. See, I really tried to think outside the box... if you will excuse the pun to the old types of "box cameras". :-)
Here's my take on the sketch and the theme:
This is another card that has been prepped and put into the OWH box. I like that it is neither masculine nor feminine. I chose a sentiment from PTI's Signature Greetings set and felt that it was perfect with the DSP. A vintage faceted button was threaded with silver cord and the whole thing was secured to the sentiment layer by stitching the cord through the sentiment layer and tying it on the top of the button. I did add a little Crystal Effects for good measure.
Now, on to Carol and Beth's cards. Let's start with Beth's fabulous friendship card.
I love how Beth tied the embossed background to the sentiment. It was perfect. The card has a vintage feel with the colors and the distressing on the embossed layer, but the lines are strong and modern. The touch of brown ribbon brings the brown in the embossed layer to the front of the card and the repetition of the layers for both the card base and the sentiment are fabulous. There is so much interest in this card and I love the tactile nature of it! The sentiment and it's treatment on the card are timeless! Gorgeous.
Now on to another of Carol's cards. Once again I chose a butterfly card.
Once again Carol went the monochromatic route and it works beautifully. The butterflies are perfectly framed in the hatched border. The Eggplant frame around them brings the eye to the center of the card and your eye travels down past the popped up butterflies and down to the sentiment. It then travels across the card because of the baker's twine and scoring. Of course the repetition of three's makes me happy; three butterflies, three ties of the baker's twine and three basic rhinestones! Gorgeous card!
I spent several hours again yesterday prepping the (almost) last of the cards and I can then start to concentrate on the slide shows. I really can't wait to show them to you. I first have to work out how I do them in my new photo editing software!
On a personal note:
Lou and I are back in to the rythym of life after our trip. The weather went from mid 90s down to the 40s! It was freezing cold this morning. I had taken the hummer and oriole feeders in because I was convinced they had gone. However, we were out on the deck mid-morning and I saw a hummer looking for the feeder. I'm thinking it might be one that is on her way down from further up north. So, I quickly rushed in and made up some new hummer food. Kelly you are absolutely right to keep your feeder's out. I shall keep cleaning these ones out every couple of days and refilling for the next week. I think if you do the same, you may still have some hungry little visitors.
On a more somber note. I can't get over the images of the flooding in Colorado. It never ceases to amaze - and scare me - when you see what havoc Mother Nature can wreak. My heart goes out to the families who have lost friends and family, or who are looking for family members and friends. The damage and the loss of life in these situations is always so hard to comprehend. We can only hope and prayer that those over 600 still listed as missing are found safe and sound with relatives.
Once again I felt the need to comment on the needless loss of lives in the shootings in Washington. to be honest, I'm speechless. Absolutely speechless.
As always, thank you for visiting my blog. Your visits and your comments are always much appreciated. Warm hugs and prayers to those of you who need a lift tonight and to those affected by the floods in Colorado and the shootings in Washington.
I'll be back with more OWH eye candy tomorrow.
