Cardinal for Festive Friday
24 November 2013
Hi Everyone. Happy Sunday.
I hope you have all had a great weekend and, for those of you in the USA, are ready for the upcoming Thanksgiving weekend!
I checked out the challenge at FestiveFriday today and found the perfect inspiration for a card.
Peace is such a great trigger word and I was also inspired by the bright red color. I had this idea in my head to create a craft and cherry cobbler card using a couple of new dies.
Whilst I was sorting out my craft room, I found two embossing folders from SU that I never use - Designer Frames and knew that I wanted to use the oval shape and some Whisper White craft ink. I wanted to see if I could create a focal point to sit behind my bird.
It took a little while to get the idea from my head onto paper, but here's the finished result:
Once I had embossed the designer frame into the kraft card stock, I took a sponge and some Whisper White ink and rubbed the ink into the debossed area of the frame, and the dots surrounding it. I then took my sentiment and curved it on my stamp block to try to fit around the oval of the Designer Frame. The branch was cut from a Memory Box die and adhered to the card base using Tombow Multi Glue. I die cut the cardinal and popped him onto dimensionals over the branch. The last step was to take a gel roller and run it over the branch and the dots. It's subtle, but adds a little bit of shinner to the card when you have it in hand. Of course, I had to add an "eye" to the cardinal. I don't know why, but I just can't let a bird go without an "eye" :-)
Don't forget to pop along to Festive Friday and check out the challenge this week.
On a personal note:
Well, Lou worked until around 6.20 AM this morning. I did keep him company until around 2.00 AM, but decided I couldn't go any later than that! It did mean that we had a very late start to our day today, so I got very little time to play in my craft room. It was a good day to be inside. It looked gorgeous out - a bright, sunny day... but the temps were really low this morning - around 1 degree.
I hope my blog readers in the area of the storm area staying safe!
As always, thank you for your visit and your comments. They really are much appreciated. Warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.
Hugs
Jaydee
