Stampin! with Jaydee

Hi Everyone.

It's the fabulously talented Shana's choice of keyword across at Addicted to Cas this week.  It's also the week that we say goodbye to the very talented Christine.

Here's the keyword that Shana chose for us:

Now, there are many things that I could think of for "new", but decided on a welcome to the neighborhood card that I made for our new neighbors! 

The wire house comes from a SSS monthly card kit and I found great inspiration across at the SSS card kit reveal.  The card you see was totally inspired by Stephanie's fabulous card.   I changed out the colors, the background DSP and made the house in the circle work for me with a heart cut from red glimmer card stock.  The brick DSP was from an earlier card kit and was perfect for a new home card.  The sentiment was typed up on my favorite word processing software and printed onto SU Whisper White card stock.

 Adhering the metal house was the hardest thing, but Crystal Effects came the rescue and secured it firmly to the DSP.  I was happy with the colors of the card and thought the house wire element against the brick was a match made in heaven.  Of course, the pop of red glimmer card stock for the heart embodies what a new home is all about..... heart and family.

On a personal note:

Oh..... I do have some very smart blog readers!  Most of you guessed, or recognized, the photo from this blog post.

It was indeed Buckingham Palace taken from St James' Park.  Actually taken from the bridge on the Princess Diana Memorial Walk.  We had just spent a couple of hours in the Churchill War Rooms museum and decided to walk back to our hotel through the park.  The War Rooms museum was fascinating.  It seemed really odd being in the underground center where so many decisions were made during those crucial years of 1939 to 1945.  It was fascinating walking through the spaces and looking into rooms that have been recreated exactly as they were during the Blitz.  If you are interested, you can check out this link.  

As a kid growing up in post-war Britain, the aftermath of the bombings in Britain will always be seared into my brain.  My father and all my uncles served somewhere in Europe or Burma during WWII.  My mother was one of the first women to sign up as what are now known as "the Women of Steel".  She had never worked in a factory and really wanted to be a WREN, but was convinced by a group of recruiters that the women needed to do everything they could to help the men at the front.  You can read a little about these amazing, and largely forgotten, heroines at this link.  Consequently, I was determined to visit the Churchill War Rooms and am so glad that we did. 

After the walk back through the Park, Lou and I went to a Michelin Star restaurant called Pied-a-terre for a 10 course vegetarian tasting menu that was out of this world good!  The service was, as you would imagine, impeccable.  The food delicious.  The servings a treat of the eyes.  In the evening we went to the West End to see "the Book of Mormon", then back to the hotel for drinks and snacks and a little relaxation.  All round it was an amazing day!  The irony of the fact that it was because of the efforts of all of allies who fought in WWII that we were able to do any of the things that we did that day, did not escape me!

Colleen.... so glad you were able to sort out your fireworks in the oven!  What a fright that must have given you and you seem to have handled it with amazing calm and graze.   I laughed that your DH had slept through it - and the fire alarm!  So glad you are safe :-)
