Stampin! with Jaydee

I managed to play around with some ink, markers, pearls and embossing folders for a card to meet two challenges this weekend.

Clean and simple stamping on Sunday had "color me pretty" challenge and Simon Says Stamps had a "bring on the pearls" challenge.

I decided to have a little fun with my new SSS March card kit.  The kit has a lot of sentiments around color and rainbows, perfect for the CASonSunday challenge.

I started by cutting a piece of water color paper 4" x 3" and temporarily adhered it to my ranger craft sheet.  I then used the corner of my craft sheet as a palette and took the top off the markers and scribbled color onto the craft sheet.  I added a couple of mists of water from my misting bottle and got to work with a broad tip water brush, remembering to clean up between each color so that I got clean colors and not muddy colors when I added them to the water color paper.

Once I was done with my rainbow of colors, I quickly dried it with my heat gun and ran it through my Big Shot with a tag die.  The hardest decision was what color card base to use.  I could have gone masculine with a lighter blue (Marina, Soft Sky, Coastal Cabana), but I decided that I was going to use pinks to make it more feminine.   Of course, I had to add some pearls.  They were the perfect finishing touches to my focal element.

I'm sorry about the little size of my photo!  I used my iPhone to take the photo and for some reason the setting seems to be to send the photo in a rather small size!  I've tried to increase the size of my but it's making the wording a little fuzzy.  I promise you it isn't :-) .  I have made it so that you can click on the photo to make it larger and have a good look at it.

You can see that I used the pencil stamp from the card kit with white pigment ink and white embossing powder.  I think they add a little bit of interest and I like that they are going in the opposite direction to the colors of the rainbow.   I also like that the colors have - for the most part - not blended into each other, keeping a clean line between (most) of the colors.   OH... and the set comes with the spelling of COLOR in both the American and English version - COLOUR.  Which is super cool!

I originally did this using my Inktense pencils.  Well, the color was intense, but the effect was terrible.  Take a look:

Mmmm... not quite the sophisticated crafty-savvy look I was going for.  :-)  The markers mixed with the water give a much better, more even look, and I could draw a little ink directly from the tip of the marker to make more intense colors.  I think the second version was much better.   I was lucky that I have a few different colors of pearls tucked away in my stash.  I've had these pearls for years - literally 5 or 6 years.  I don't use them often, but this was a good time to bring them out.

On a personal note:

Well, we have been advised by our local news station that a warm up is on the way - after we broke the 140 year record for coldest March 2nd in 140 years!  I absolutely can't wait.  I'm really excited to see the reappearance of our black eyed susan's and can't wait to see all of the vervain that is supposed to be coming up in our wetlands this year.  So, the purple of the vervain should mix beautifully with the bright yellow of the susan's.  I'm also waiting to see if Niles and Daphne (our Sandhill Crane's) make a return this year.

I wanted to share a video that Pammie sent to me.  I screamed with laughter - hopefully it will brighten your day, too.  Oh... yeah... and it reminded me of just how amazing Marvin Gaye was!

Now..... how many of you have spare cards lying around?   Go on, put up your hands... yes,  you!  I know you do, too :-)  I bet most of us have more than a few birthday cards hanging around that we made for challenges, or just for fun, and haven't had a recent to send them.  Well, if you have a card that is suitable for a girl who is turning sweet 16 and could do with a little lift..... won't you think about sending a card?   I found this request on splitcoaststampers this week and when i read the news story, I couldn't not send a card.    here's a link to the news story.  I hope that you will be able to send a card to young Tawna, she's certainly see enough sorrow in her life and I know you card will help make her day.
