Hey there for Paper Players # 193 and Inkspirational
27 April 2014
Hi Everyone. Happy Saturday Night.
It's the fabulous Anne-Marie's turn to host our Paper Players challenge this week and she has a fabulous sketch for us. I decided I needed a little color inspiration and found a great combo across at Inkspirationals where the challenge is to use green and pink. Not a color combo I use often, but one that is fabulous - and particularly appropriate for this time of year!
I find myself using so few patterned papers these days, but knew that I needed to for this sketch. I dug into my very old stash and found two pieces that were green. I used the gingham for the vertical element and an old piece of Christmas music paper for the square. You can't tell that it's a Christmas paper even when you look at it very closely :-) (I liked the way the color on this piece worked with the gingham.) Then I had to create a base layer as per the sketch. I knew that I wanted to keep it clean and simple, so I used my Lil Inker stitched dies and cut a piece of Very Vanilla and I think it works well!
The next thing I worried about was the focal element. I played around with circles, feathers, flowers and all sorts of things. I was almost at a loss when I opened up a box and found the chipboard butterflies. Perfect! I used Raspberry Ripple ink and a blending brush and went over the butterfly to change it's color and loved the bright pop of pink.
I had to change the placement of the butterfly just slightly, because it looked odd hanging off the square piece, so I hope that AM will forgive me for going off the sketch a little :-) The last thing that I needed to do was add a couple of sequins and stamp the sentiment. I absolutely love this sentiment - and the script used to create it. I hope SU brings out more like this when we see the new catalog!
Here's my take on Anne Marie's sketch and the Inkspirational colors.
The Players have outdone themselves again this week. Check out their blogs and see what they have as inspiration for you, then come back to the Paper Players and join us. And, don't forget to join in with the fun and Inkspirational and see the great cards the team have for you.
Whilst we are talking about the Paper Players.... Happy Birthday to my very talented pal - Ann - who celebrates her big day today.... Ann... I hope you had a wonderful day and you can see your birthday card on this post
On a personal note:
Well... it's raining... and raining and raining and raining..... The wetland looks like a wetland and, in fact, we are finding puddles forming in places they never have before. As it is forecast to rain until Thursday... I think we might have to build a houseboat. Oh.... and it's due to snow this week, too! For goodness sake, will winter please give up his grasp and let lady Spring have some fun here :-)
Now.... I have to announce the winner of the Stampin' Up! Umbrella Blog Candy Challenge. Perfect, considering the weather we are having!
Before I give you the name of the winner..... let me set the scene for you - in the form of a script :-) Get it... movie script.... gives you a hint, right? :-)
Interior shot. Late afternoon. A woman stands at the kitchen counter.
Camera pans to the backdoor. A man enters, scans the room and sees something unusual on the dinette table.
"You got flowers?" he asks.
"Yes!" she replies.
He: "Who are they from?"
She with a smile: "Well, obviously not from you!"
He, laughing: "Well, obviously! So who are they from?"
She: "From the most handsome man on earth!"
He, snorting: "Yeah, right. Like Clooney's going to send you flowers!"
She grinning. "Well, you are wrong aren't you!"
He walks forward towards the offending flowers on the dinette table and says; "OK. Enough of this, is there a card?"
She grins widely and says, "take a look."
He runs his fingers through the flowers, looking for the card. He finds the envelope, opens it, pulls his glasses from his head and rests them on his nose and proceeds to read the card.
He exclaims, loudly, incredulously even and looks at her aghast "Holy.... expletive - they are, too!"
She raises her head, smiles broadly and says "yep. told ya!"
So, ROSEMARY... you are the winner as you were the first of the respondents to guess

Such a pretty card Jaydee! The butterfly is so peaceful and the subdued background really makes her (because of the pink) pop. I don't use dsp much either. It's a weakness of mine and one I haven't fixed yet. lol.
Okay maybe I missed this, but how on Earth did George send you flowers? I'd love to hear that story some day! Lou's reaction is priceless! ; )
Congrats to Rosemary and wonderful news about Gavin to.
Have a lovely weekend!

Sweet card, Jaydee....I just love the soft colors and that beautiful butterfly!

Jaydee! You better spill the beans about those flowers. Are you serious?? I loved reading the "scene" and Lou's reaction. But we need details. Ha! If he is who you hint him to be, he is friends with my favorite guy with the initials "MD" so maybe you can put a bug in his ear, since you guys are buddies now. *wink, wink* Ok, after THAT distraction, let's talk about your fun card. I love the mix of patterns, the soft colors and the "stitched" detail. Absolutely gorgeous, as always. Hugs! :)

Okay, you know I'm DYING over here, RIGHT?!?!?!?? Flowers from George?!?!?!?!?? I'm with Lou, "Holy expletive!" :oP Rosemary, congrats! :o)
LOVE the card! It's so lovely and spring-y and CAS all at once. You know, I've noticed I'm not using DSP much lately myself. It's almost as if my stamping style has evolved to something I'm unfamiliar with. Crazy.
Rain? We're slated for it the next three days. Hooray! I don't have to water all those seeds I put in yesterday. ;o) Surely spring is here to stay for you. Surely...!
Hugs!
P.S. Hi Lou! :o)

Really, Jaydee? Friends with George? Congrats!! Aren't you a lucky one.
Before an update on Gavin, thanks a million to all of your support! He is out of the hospital but not back to school yet. Has appointment tomorrow with the neurologist. He's feeling better, but still get tired easily, has headaches and reacts to too much stimulation. We're pleased with the progress so far. Pretty scary for this old gramma, tho! ;-)
