Sneak Peek - Maritime Traveler for Sketch Saturday

Hi Everyone.  Happy Sunday.

I have two sneak peeks for you tonight.  I love the DSPs in the new catalog and we had three to choose from during pre-order.  I couldn't decide which one to buy, so choose all three instead!

I needed a sketch that helped showcase some of the DSP and found this great sketch across at sketch saturday.

One of the DSP sets is called Maritime and the colors in the DSP are Night of Navy, Coastal Cabana, Real Red and Whisper White and, as the name suggests, it has a strong maritime/nautical feel.

For tonight's card I choose one of the pages featuring white anchors on a Real Red background.

White anchor

Isn't that fabulous.... I love it.  Now, I needed an element for the left-hand side of the sentiment to fit with the sketch.   I realized that one of the new sets I ordered would fit perfectly; it's a set called Traveler.  It's a set that has a vintage feel and this old steamer is one of the images.  Here's my card:

Fussy cutting that old steamer was quite a task I can tell you :-)  But... I think it was worth it.  I really like it against the Real Red and Night of Navy backgrounds.   Now... I know you can't really see it, but the stamped area behind the steamer is also a sneak peek - it's from the Work of Art stamp set.  I needed something to ground the steamer and I think this works?

Don't forget to pop along to Sketch Saturday and check out the fabulous design team cards - and play along, too!

On a personal note:

It was a gorgeous, sunny day here today.  A little cool, but still gorgeous.  So much sun that I was able to take my photos out on the deck for the first time since October.  The sun is slowly on the move and reaching the deck at just the right time to take photos.  Whilst I was out there, I managed to capture this shot of another of our new (temporary) neighbors.

Blue winged teal

These guys are a couple of blue-winged teals.  You can read all about them here.  Now, these guys are new for me and I was very surprised to find them in the wetland.  It certainly is the fist year we have had enough water to attract them!  It started with a pair, and then we found we had 3 pairs.  They won't be sticking around for very long, but I'm certainly glad they paid us a visit!

As well as making a couple of cards today, I did manage to play around with a little mixed media.  This is so very new to me and I can't say that I was thrilled with the results.   I'm hoping that with a little practice I'll get much better and will be able to start an art journal instead of just playing around on paper.  :-)

The hardest thing for me is having constantly sticky, inky hands.  I really have to relaxed and just let go!!!  Actually, the hardest thing is having a blank sheet of paper in front of me and wondering what an earth I am going to create - and with what.  I think I might have to do as Lou suggested and CASE a few projects.  I must admit, it was very relaxing and certainly stretched my creative skills!

I'll be back with another sneak peek and some more wildlife photos tomorrow.  In the meantime, thank you for your visit and your comments.  Warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.  Jeanne, I hope Gavin is doing well.

Hugs

Jaydee
