Hi Everyone. Happy Monday.
I have a card to share with you tonight that I made using the sketch from Freshly Made and the colors from As You See it. Now, I was too late for the FMS challenge, but it still made a great sketch for these totally and utterly yummy colors from As You See It! I would never have thought of putting silver with Cherry Cobbler and Baked Brown Sugar - but they are fabulous together!
Before I show you my card, I wanted to give a huge shoutout to the As You See It Team. When I went to get the new challenge for this week, I noticed that they had chosen THIS card as top pick this week. I was thrilled - oh, and check out the card from the featured artist DJ and her amazing card
Now, on to my card. I decided to pull out some watercolor paper and my favorite SU Christmas set - Beauty of the Season.
I began by stamping the bird onto my watercolor paper with Stazon. I then took out my watercolor brushes and a little Soft Sky ink. I needed to create - well - a soft sky color ! in the background. I concentrated a little more color around the image and then faded it out as I got to the edges. I dried it and then got to work with the colors from the challenge, beginning with the cardinal. I used my color blender pens and my Cherry Cobbler ink and markers, alternating them to get the depth of color and shading that I needed on the Cardinal. I dried that layer and then got to work on the branch using Baked Brown sugar.
to finish things off, I used a silver Wink of Stella pen to color in the berries and add just a little shimmer to the top of the branch. Once the image was dry, I stamped a sentiment on the bottom of the water color layer and ran it through my big shot and my Lil Inker stitched rectangles. I wrapped some Cherry Cobbler twine around the top and mounted the focal layer to my silver metallic base layer using dimensional tape.
Here's my card:
Notice that little turned over edge on the top left? Well, that's because I was outside trying to photograph my card when the wind came and took it and it went sailing down 15 feet!!!!! I was lucky that the only damage was a little turned edge which I can easily fix!
I hope you will pop along to As you See it and check out the fabulous design team cards - including the guest designer - my Paper Players pal - LeAnne. The team really showcases how gorgeous this color combo is.
On a personal note:
Well, as winter was definitely on his way yesterday, I took a couple of shots of the wetland wearing its fall colors. The grasses take on the most amazing shade of bronze and it certainly looks very fall like.
The other thing we had to do yesterday was bring in all of the outdoor furniture. We finally had to give in to the fact that we were not going to be sitting out any more this year. Why is that, I hear you ask? Well... because we were under a winter storm warning for anywhere from 6 to 16 inches! Throughout the day, as the stormed moved, the predictions moved up and down. At one point we were right in the bulls-eye of the storm for the highest amounts. Luckily that moved downwards by early morning. Lou is outside right now with the snowblower and shovel. I think we got around 8 inches. I'll take a photo for you tomorrow so that you can see.
We also put out the Christmas decorations yesterday as we knew that, if we didn't do them yesterday, it was going to be difficult after that! When we put out the decorations it was 46 degrees and sunny.... no sign at all of the upcoming storm! We bathed in the luxury of the warm sun whilst we could!
Here's our screened in porch with our outdoor furniture packed away for winter. We decided two things..... the fact that we could get all our different pieces of furniture in and still have lots of space, showed just how big this area is..... we also decided that it was much better storing the furniture there and saving the space in the garage!
We were both saying how much we had enjoyed our porch this year and that it was such a great addition to the house. It really meant that we could thoroughly enjoy our views this year without being carried away by mosquitoes. In addiiton, the cats had really enjoyed running around out there and watching the animals and birds. They weren't that keen to spend much time out there yesterday when the temps dropped though :-)
I'll be back on Wednesday with the final totals for the Cards for a Cause card drive and will be announcing the winners of the draw! So, I hope you will check back then. In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.
