Shaker Ombre Love for Card Concept and Just Us Girls
28 January 2015
Hi Everyone. Happy Wednesday. I am so glad that we are past the "hump" of the week and are on our way to the weekend :-)
I seem to be a little obsessed with shaker cards this week and was inspired to create a valentine's themed one when I saw the challenge across at Just Us Girls - and the great color scheme and inspiration photograph at Card Concept seemed to be a perfect match for my inspiration.
I started by die cutting the L O V E letters in #110 white card stock. On reflection, I wish I had used the SU Vanilla Coaster Board... but the card stock worked ok. Once I had die cut them, I used 4 different colors of Ranger inks and blended from dark to light up the letters - just as they had been in the inspiration photograph from Card Concept.
I then die cut a rectangle and, based on the inspiration from Just Us Girls, I gathered up 3 different colors of hearts from Martha Stewarts hearts and stars sequins to use as the shaker pieces in my card.
I used a trick from Jennifer McGuire and used Fun Foam behind the front layer to house my shaker pieces. It works really well. Shaker cards do seem to take me forever to put together, but I do think they are worth it.
For the base of the card, I needed to tone down the Blushing Bride and make it more along the lines of the color from Card Concept and adhered the L O V E letters with Glossy Accents.
Here's my card:
Here's a tip from me when making Shaker cards. I find the little sequins get stuck to my fingers, elevate themselves and attach to the pieces of transparency and are generally sticky little things! I found that if I take my embossing buddy - or other anti-static tool - and rub it along my fingers and along the surfaces that I'm working with - including the transparency that houses the shaker pieces - the sequins are much more manageable and are less likely to travel. :-)
Don't forget to pop along to Just Us Girls and Card Concept and check out the fabulous cards for your inspiration.
I'll be back with another card for you tomorrow. In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.
Hugs
Jaydee

Beautiful shaker card. Love the cute little hearts and stars.
I normally don't have much luck in making shaker cards so guess it's time to give it a try again.
Have a wonderful day along with a great weekend
