Hi Everyone. Happy Saturday.
It's the fabulously creative Claire's turn to host our Paper Players challenge and, as it is her first challenge as part of our permanent DT - I do hope you will play along with us and make it a successful challenge for her :-)
Claire's theme choice made me smile and I so enjoyed myself making this card. Here's Claire's theme:
Firstly, how fabulous is that badge from the always-talented Nance :-) Secondly, how great is this theme? My regular blog readers know that animals are a very important part of our lives and, consequently, this challenge really appealed to me:-)
I immediately knew which stamp set I wanted to use and it was one that Lou bought for me on a trip to Australia a couple of years ago. Following on with my resolutions for 2015, I am using colors, stamps and items that rarely get love.... and this fabulous stamp rarely sees ink! It's a great stamp to color, too :-)
I began by stamping the image onto white card stock with Early Espresso ink and then used a blender pen and some Early Espresso ink to fill in the gaps. I then used my Copic Markers to color the eyes and beak of the Emu. Once I was finished with those parts of the image, I took my B000 Copic Marker pen and colored the background around the Emu.
I took my rectangle die and cut a hole into another piece of white card stock to create a frame for the Emu. The Emu was adhered behind the cut out and the whole thing was mounted onto a Basic Gray card stock base.
I was left with what to do with the sentiment? Mmmm.... Ah. Ha. I remembered that I had received a set of Lawn Fawn alphabet stamps in my mail box recently and that it would be perfect to create the sentiment that I wanted. I mounted the individual characters onto a block and inked them up with StazOn and stamped the sentiment onto heavy Vellum. As I didn't want any glue to show, I wrapped the sentiment around the mat layer and adhered it to the back.
Here's my card:

Of course, I had to add a little glimmer to the Emu and used my Wink of Stella pen on the eyes and beak of the bird. Unfortunately, it was a very dull day and I wasn't able to get a good photograph of the card, so you can't see the shimmer.... but it really does look much better in hand. :-)
The design team have created some fabulous cards to inspire you, I hope you will pop along to their blogs and check them out. Then... we would love it if you would play along with us this week.
On a personal note:
I only had enough time to create one card in my craft room today, but am really hoping that I will get more time to play along with some challenges - and use some of my new goodies. I don't know about you, but when I receive new goodies, I unpack them, prep them and then leave them where I can see them to make sure that I do use them. So, the new goodies are sitting ready for me to show them a little love and I am really looking forward to turning on WQXR tomorrow and just losing myself in beautiful music with my inks and paper.
I had to share this photo with you. I love the wetland in the sunset - and sunrise and was lucky enough to be standing in the kitchen as the sun was casting a warm glow on the wetland.
I really love how different the wetland looks in each season. It doesn't matter the season, it always makes me happy to look at it.
I'll be back with another card for you tomorrow. In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.
Hugs
Jaydee

This guy is just hilarious! He really does have his eye on you! Love how you've given him center stage and used vellum for the sentiment.

LOL. What a cute card and sure made me smile and brightened up my day. Love the sentiment that you added to go with the Emu.
Have a wonderful weekend; what's left of it anyway.
Going to get down to 29 deg.tonight and only in the 40's for tomorrow.
The wetlands are lovely no matter what the time of day it is or season.

This stamp also made me smile and love the saying with it. I also enjoy all the pictures you send of the wetlands.

This is adorable, Jaydee! I love the emu and the coloring you did is divine! Such a cool stamp to use too! Love your photo of your backyard - I love to see the changes in my backyard from season to season as well. Although right now, it's just covered in snow but that just adds a different level of beauty.

Oh, Jaydee, this image, the theme, the colors are so you! The emu is such a surprise that anyone who receives this card would become happy immediately. I could feel my endorphins rising to the occasion. Maybe you would know this -- how is it that I look out my windows every day and am still fascinated by the birds, the mountains, the sky, the trees every day? It is always a wondrous sight! Have a very happy day! Nancy B
