Flowers on My Mind for Simon Says Stamp and Sunday Stamps
29 April 2015
Hi Everyone.
Happy Wednesday. I got the change to have a little fun time in my craft room and went looking for some challenges to use. I found this great sketch across at Sunday Stamps - and saw the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge to use yellow on my card.... Well, the minute I saw that I knew I had just the right goodies to use for the sketch!
Here's the sketch:
The Simon Says Stamp Monthly card kit for March was one of my all time favorites and one of the feature colors is yellow - a perfect fit for the challenge:-)
I love the sketch and realized that I could use some of the DSP from the card kit for my focal point - and for the banners. I'm really trying to challenge myself to use up all of the supplies in the card kits that I get - so this was a great opportunity to kick off that resolution!
I began by stamping one of the sentiments from the "Flowers on My Mind" set (contained in the kit - and sold separately). The sentiment is long, so I took my scissors and carefully cut it into two so that I could fit it onto my card front. I specifically chose this Eiffel Tower piece of DSP because this card is for my bestie - and this particular piece of DSP is my favorite one from the card kit!
I placed the focal layer onto foam so that it would pop off my page, and backed it with a striped piece of card stock from the kit. I then cut three banners from other pieces of DSP from the kit and was ready to add the elements across the top.
Here's my card:
I tied the twine around the top and it just needed a little something to finish it off. I went hunting in my supplies and remembered that I had some old Stampin' Up! crowns. I had one flat one left and knew it would be perfect. It was very shiny silver, so I took my Copic Marker and colored it a very dark grey. That made it fit in much better with my color scheme - and with the colors in the Eiffel Tower...... somehow, it just fit with the whole Parisian theme :-) Here's a closeup of the crown:
Then, I set about creating a matching envelope. I have a Tim Holtz set that has some great travel elements, so stamped those
I was really pleased with how the card turned out and hope that my bestie will like it :-) There is something really striking about a black, white and yellow combo and I think that's why this particular card kit really appealed to me. Even though the card kit is sold out, you can still get the individual elements on this SimonSaysStamp March card kit link.
I hope you will play along with the Sunday Stamps and Simon Says Stamp challenges - and check out the fabulous inspiration and submission cards.
On a personal note:
Things are starting to sprout.... even though the grass is till pretty much brown in the wetland, some green is starting to appear. I took this photo of a couple of the turkey's today and you can see how they are surrounded by brown grass.... but... little tuffts of green can be seen :-)
I know this is not strictly wildlife..... but ... if there is a box in the house - regardless of how small that box might be - Bailey has to squeeze into it:
Bailey is 20# and that box is way too small for him...... I think he preferred the next box that came into the house:
He really is such a BEAUTIFUL cat.... and he's as sweet as candy. :-)
I'll be back tomorrow with another card. In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.
Hugs
Jaydee
