You make me smile - Paper Players #254

Hi Everyone.  Happy Sunday.

It's the very talented Laurie's turn to host our Paper Players challenge this week and she has a great theme challenge for us:

Now CAS and frames.... there were so many places I could take this but, as I am making cards for hospitalized kids - I wanted to do something a little more fun.

When Lou was in Australia recently, he bought me some new stamps from a local company and I love that they feature native animals.

I got to thinking about this fun emu and remembered that I had a pair of wooden glasses from an old Simon Says Stamp card kit.   I had the idea of putting the glasses on the fun emu.... but..... the image was way too small for the glasses.  So, I stamped the image, scanned it and increased it in size to 120% of the original and printed it onto card stock.

It was almost perfect... but the neck wasn't long enough.  Well, that was nothing that my copic fineliner couldn't solve :-)   Once I had elongated the neck of the emu, I set about coloring it and I really wanted to make it fun as opposed to realistic colors.

Here's my card:

You make me smile

Oh... I cannot tell you how much fun I had creating this card.  Once I had colored the image, I used my Copic markers on the wooden glasses and then covered them with Wink of Stella to add a little sparkle and shine.  I hope this card brought a smile to your face and I hope it brings a smile to the face of the final recipient :-)

The design team have created some fabulous cards for your inspiration.  I hope you will check them out and then come back and play with us.  We'd love to see what you create.

On a personal note:

Well, the weather has certainly been interesting.  We have had some incredible storms over the last week or so and I have never - ever - seen sky to sky lightening storms like I have seen this week.  Last night over 250,000 people lost power during the storm and a possible tornado touched down about 20 minutes from us.  We were so surprised to wake up this morning and find that we had not lost any trees.   Some of the prairie flowers got really battered, but everything else was just fine.  Lou went to our local supermarket only to find that they were without power and the generators were doing nothing except running the checkouts.  Hopefully we will have a quiet night tonight!

I wanted to share a couple of photos with you.   We went out onto the deck a couple of days ago and saw this gorgeous guy

Superstud (1 of 1)

He's a very handsome specimen and I obviously wasn't the only one that thought so.  Here's his little harem:

Superstudharem (1 of 1)

I couldn't get them all in shot, but counted 6 of them!

I cannot tell you how happy it makes us that we have multiple families feeding at our orange and jelly feeder.   I managed to catch this shot of both Mom and Dad feeding baby:

Oriolefeedtime (1 of 1)

This feeder has attracted the Grosbeaks, Finches, Orioles, 3 different types of woodpecker and, this afternoon, I even found a butterfly sucking on the orange!   Amazing.

Just in case you missed it - I have kicked off my annual Cards for a Cause card drive and we have another two very deserving charities this year and both of these are very close to my heart - hospitalized children and people suffering from cancer.   If you haven't seen it, please check out the post as this link.  We would love it if you joined us and donated cards for these great causes.

I'll be back tomorrow.  In the meantime warm hugs and prayers for those of you that need a little lift tonight.

Hugs
Jaydee
