butterflies for As You See It and Cardabilities

Hi Everyone.  Happy Tuesday.

I have two different cards for you tonight, both featuring butterflies.  I am still obsessed with the butterflies in our garden and found this guy/girl eating off the orange today.   I haven't actually seen butterflies eating rotting fruit before, so it has certainly expanded my knowledge of them and I am now conscious about putting out fruit for them.

Before I share some nature shots with you, how about we get to the cards for tonight.  Of course, both of these cards are going into our 2015 Cards for a Cause card drive.  If you haven't signed up to help yet, you still have plenty of time to help out our two charities.  More details here

First of all, this great color combo across at As You See It.

This is such a strong color combo and I decided to focus on the Cucumber Crush.  As these colors are such vibrant summer colors - and this stamp is a Penny Black stamp, I'm also entering this card in the Penny Black Saturday Summer Colors challenge.

Here's my card:

The Watermelon looks a little more washed out because I covered the butterfly with Wink of Stella.  It looks really pretty under normal light, but the shimmer tends to really soften the color in broad sunlight light this.

I am in love with this new set of stamps.  It's a set of three butterfly tags and I used everyone of them this weekend creating a card with the same sketch, but totally different colors.  I'll share those with you later :-)

Now... on to my Cardabilities card.  This was such a cool sketch and I decided to do something different with the circular element.

I paired the sketch with the challenge from Just Us Girls to use vellum on your card.
When I was at the craft fair a couple of weeks ago, I picked up some acetate printed butterflies.  They are plain black outlines printed onto acetate.  The fun thing is that you can use Crystal Effects on the back of them and then cover them in glitter.  That way they are just beautifully colored and detailed on the front and all the glitter is on the back.  I burnished the back of the butterfly to get as much glitter off as I could, too.
To create the circular element, I used the Stampin' Up! Sale a Bration Irresistibly Yours DSP and a mask that I created from cutting a circle for another card.  I placed the circle down onto the DSP and covered the circle with Soft Sky ink and a Tim Holtz mini blender tool.  It worked really well on the DSP and gave me a soft circle of blue on which to place my butterflies.  The remainder of the DSP was left white and you can see the leaves for texture.
Then, for the vellum elements, I used my SU butterfly punch and some fabulous white embossed polka dot vellum that I received in an old SSS card kit to create two little butterflies.
Here's my card:

This card is really pretty in hand, but the bright late afternoon sunlight was really bright and it was the only time I could take photos!
I hope you will visit the challenge sites - they are all hotlinked - and check out the fabulous design team inspiration and submission cards.
On a personal note:
Well, I am into week 2 of my new job...  the first two real weeks - the others were transitioning between the old and the new.  I'm really enjoying the team that I am working with.  They are all supportive and collaborative and the work is challenging.  So far... so good :-)   I am working some long hours though, so not getting to play as much as I would like, but I do try and make up for it at the weekend.
So.. onto the photos I wanted to share with you tonight.   A shot of a new butterfly in our garden - I do believe this is a Painted Lady

What an amazing wing pattern and the colors seem so perfect for fall.  Nope... I am not using the "F" word.... I'm going to say late summer instead.... I will not use the *all word!  No siree... I am not giving up on summer yet!
Then... I had to share a photo of the hummingbird.  These are the most amazing little birds.  I will still never forget my first sighting of one.  It was during my first cruise in Jamaica.  I was SO excited to see such a colorful little ball of energy.

Well, the cats are nagging for dinner and I need to take a call with Asia in 30 minutes... so I had better go and feed the kitties before they call the SPCA.
I'll be back tomorrow with another card.  In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.

Hi Jaydee,

I really love your butterfly cards. I've made one for my monthly swap with the butterfly framelits. Just love them. I haven't seen any butterflies out here in Apple Valley, but just this week I saw a really pretty one for the first time. It was several shades of yellow and reminded me of the Monarch ones that are along the coast of California. Must get working on my cards for the children now.

Thanks again for an exciting site and I look forward to your cards and pictures daily.

Marsha from Apple Valley, CA.

Two very beautiful cards and such lovely butterflies; on the cards as well as the one on the orange.
Cute little hummer as well
Have a wonderful and enjoyable week

What gorgeous butterfly cards, Jaydee! Love them both, but I let out a little gasp when I saw the second one. Stunning! Love the bright color and sparkle against the soft blue and white background. How wonderful to have such beautiful inspiration all around you.
