Hi Everyone. Happy Monday.
I hope you are all enjoying a great start to your week. As y'all know by now, I am pretty much crafting with one good hand and a couple of good fingers on the other one :-) If you saw my Paper Players card, you will know that I decided stenciling was something I could do with my fingers strapped. So, I decided to use a stencil again when I saw this fabulous sketch across at Case This Sketch.
I had to study it for quite a while before I realized that I had a Simon Says Stamp stencil that would work quite well to recreate the split in the card. I stamped a couple of flowers in black over the stenciled leaves and then die-cute a "hello" from Black card stock and adhered it to the front panel. I used my Wink of Stella pen to add glimmer and shine to the "hello" as well as to the negative areas of the little stamped flowers. If you look closely, you can see that I added some black enamel liquid to the inside of the flowers and, when you have the card in hand, it really does add some shine and dimension to the card.
Here's my card:
On a personal note:
Well, I think you are all tired of hearing me talk about how cold it is here.... but .... it is so cold that I went to open the front door yesterday and the teeny, tiiiiny leeeetle hole that we have in our door that has something to do with the deadbolt was frozen solid - like the back of a freezer that desperately needs defrosting.... there was white ice all around it, all over it and all inside it... white, powdery, ice. So, I can hear you all saying... so what.... you would expect that in those temps outside. I would normally have to agree with you.... BUT... and there's a big BUT.... the icing was on the inside.... yep.... where the temp is a steady 68 degrees above zero. It was just that the air coming into that little hole was so cold that it was freezing where it met the warm air. I can honestly say I've never seen that before!
We had a visitor to our yard yesterday. He only visits us a couple of times a year, but we are always thrilled when he does. Sadly, it was still fairly early and the sun hadn't risen yet... and I had to take a photo through the glass and through the netting. But, you can see what he is from his outline. It's so distinct.
He was exceptionally skittish as he is so exposed in the snow. He stayed around for about 20 minutes and then disappeared off into the wetland.
This little guy and his friends have found a home in the cypress. I love all of his stripes - they look wonderful against the snow. What is he? He's an American Tree Sparrow.
They don't wander far from the cypress they have decided to call home. Mind you, when you see how dense it is - and how the snow on it must provide even more of a barrier, you can see why they love it.
You can see that the feeders are pretty close, too. So they don't have to travel very far. It really is a perfect little place for them to roost over winter.
Well, I will be back on Wednesday with another post. In the meantime, thank you all again for your good wishes. Warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight
Hugs
Jaydee

I liked your card very much. I must admit that I really enjoy all your nature pictures. Never get tired of seeing them. I can't imagine how cold it must be, but never get tired of you talking about. I live in Bethlehem, PA and we are getting our first major snow storm this week-end. It has been very cold and windy the last few days. I guess we are kinda of lucky that this is our first snow storm. As far as I am concern it could be our last!!!!!!

As always, I love your bird pics. What a great home for those sparrows.
Your card is lovely, simple, but you made it special with those extra touches. You've used the Wink of Stella pen so effectively so many times that I've ordered it. I'm looking forward to adding sparkle to my cards, thanks to your inspiration.

So glad you can still create beautiful cards. I love all your nature photos. And the ice inside your door is unbelievable. It was 16 this morning in VA when I went out to get the paper. Brrrr! I love it though. We had a dusting of snow on Sunday and it is still hanging around for more on Sunday. Yay!
