Big Bold Butterfly for Paper Players #326
08 January 2017
Hi Everyone.
Happy Sunday. I hope you are having a great weekend so far.
It's our first Paper Players challenge of 2017 and it's the fabulous LeAnne's turn to host our challenge this week and she has a theme challenge for us. In addition to it being our first challenge of the year, we have 3 new very talented guest designers joining us. Welcome, Valentyna, Crystal and Deanne.
When I sat down to create my card for this challenge, I was initially drawn to re-using something from a Christmas present but, as I sat at my craft desk, I noticed that I still had a card that I had made - and totally messed up - on my card table.
I'd created a card using the Big Bold Butterfly stamp from Indigo Blue. I was stamping the sentiment on another card that I had made at the same time and dropped my black inked cover onto the butterfly card. Of course, the ink pad cover had not fallen top side up.... it had fallen with the inky rim onto my beautiful white butterfly card. Grrrrrr.... I was so annoyed as there was nothing I could do to cover up a rectangle of ink that I left the card and moved on.
However, I realized that I could cut around the embossed butterfly - removing all of the white and black ink stain and re-use the butterfly on another card. It also gave me the opportunity to use a small piece 0f flexible, stiff, metallic twine that I had discarded in the bin because it was a cut off and too small for anything else. Except..... butterfly antennae :-)
Here's my recycled butterfly card:
One of the additional things that I did was to use my shimmer pen all over the butterfly to add a little shimmer and shine.
I hope you will be inspired to join us this week - we can't wait to see what you created. If you are looking for some inspiration, you have to look no further than the creations of our fabulous design team:
On a personal note:
Well... it's freezing again this morning - and I decided it was a really good morning to get up and have a bath and warm up the old bones. (yes.... even in freezing weather Lou and I sleep with the windows open in the bedroom!) However, we woke up this morning to find that we had no water - anywhere - in any tap - in any place in the house. We immediately thought we had frozen the pipes, but decided to check with our neighbors about their situation. Seems that the whole street is in the same boat and have been for the last 90 minutes. As I was typing this, we just got an email from the council telling us that the entire city is out and they are working on it with no expected timeframe before it is back on... could be a long day :-) But I don't envy them working out there trying to fix what must be a very big problem in this weather.
As Lou said.... at this time of the year - when it's not yet above zero - it's better the water goes off than the gas .... at least we can stay warm :-)
Colleen.... I hope YOU are warming up - 17 degrees is really cold down your neck of the woods! Also... to answer your question....the bells on the mantle do actually ring! Doris... 7 inches of snow! I know the kids will be enjoying THAT.
I'll leave you with a photo that I took as I got up this morning. Our visitors were searching for food.
I'll be back with another card tomorrow. In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.
Hugs
Jaydee

No water? Oh dear Jaydee, I hope your day improved! I'm with Lou on this one too - better to be able to keep warm! Your butterfly is gorgeous - it would definitely have been a shame to waste it. Hope the heating is fixed soon!

Oh my goodness--I hope you've got water by now Jaydee. That's no fun but Lou is right...at least you could stay warm. Much more important in your neck of the woods. I'm so glad you were able to save this beautiful butterfly. The colors and shimmer are just gorgeous and I love the sparkly antennae too! Happy new year, my friend!

Happy New Year, Jaydee! What a stunning card. How clever of you to salvage the butterfly the way you did. The glimmer and shine are amazing, it would have been awful for it to wind up in the trash. I hope you were not without water too long!

Such a pretty card and what a great save in saving of the butterfly. Like the little shimmer you added. Makes for the perfect touch.
Your mantel bells are Awesome.
Hopefully your water is on by now and wasn't off for too long, but at least you had heat.
Once again, thanks for sharing you wintery pictures.
Have a great week.
Was almost 60deg. here yesterday and will be close to 70 for today and tomorrow but by this weekend; another cold front moves in

Oh Jaydee, it's a gorgeous card! If you ask me how many times I messed my card with stamping sentiment at the end? Every other :) But you find great way to reuse such beautiful butterfly!
Hope you are already with water now :)

Oh Jaydee, I sure hope the water situation was resolved quickly! My Mom had a pipe freeze in Indiana this week. Hours to get it working again! I do not miss that cold weather! It has been cold enough in ATL for me.
I adore this gorgeous card and that beautiful butterfly! I can't begin to tell you how many times I have gotten ink in spots and ruined cards. So happy you could recycle this beauty! Hope your 2017 is off to a GREAT start! XXX

What a GREAT idea to retry with the butterfly. It is simply gorgeous!
I hope your water is up and running again! Right now we are at a -40C(-40F) cold cold day. Love your little visitors too!
