Tulips for Just Us Girls

Hi Everyone.

Happy Monday.  I hope you are all having a great start to your week.  As promised, I have a couple of cards to share with you this week as I managed to get some quality time in my craft room and got my fingers inky:-)

Many times I need some inspiration - especially when I am a little distracted - and I go looking for some challenges.  I saw a sketch across at Freshly Made Sketches (but missed the submission deadline!) and this gorgeous photo across at Just Us Girls. I decided to combine the two challenges.

Here's the sketch from Freshly Made - I know I missed the submission date - but having the sketch to show you helps you to see why I created the card the way I did :-)
I love the depth perception in the JUGS photograph - the red and green of the tulips popping out of the snow.  Trying to get a similar depth proved a little more difficult than I thought - but I think I captured it... or at least I hope I did :-)
I had my Altenew Tulip stamp set and it was perfect for this challenge.  I began by creating a panel down the middle and, once again, pulled out my metallic paste from Heidi Swapp.  Think I mind need an intervention soon as I have become very addicted to it :-)  It gives a lovely subtle texture that shimmers in the light.
I then used my studio Katia die and created a base for my tulips.  I stamped several tulips on the die-cut piece and then stamped three individual tulips, colored them and then die-cut them and layered them on top of the ones that I had stamped.    All that was left was to create a sentiment using my favorite Altenew Label Love stamp.
Here's my card:
Jugstulips (1 of 1)
I took the photo later in the afternoon than I normally do - so the colors aren't quite as vibrant as they are in hand.  The bottom of the card gives you a better feel of the background as the light is different there.    I do love the 3D effect and the subtle background.
I hope you will be inspired to join the fabulous team across at JUGS and join in their challenge.  There is some amazing inspiration waiting for you on the site, even if you decide not to play along.
On a personal note:
I haven't been able to capture much wildlife on camera recently, but did manage to catch a shot of our pheasant.  We don't see him very often and he is EXTREMEY skittish - so I can only get a photo of him through the windows - and the screens.   I love to see him though.   A couple of month's ago we were visited by a trio of female pheasants - we see them even more rarely than we see the male.  I'm sorry I couldnt get a better photo.  I thought I might be able to sneak out onto the deck... but he heard me open the door and flew off across the wetland.
Pheasant (1 of 1)
I'll be back tomorrow with another card for you - one using my favorite new Hey, Chick set :-)  Man... that set just makes me smile :-)  In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.
Card recipe:
  • Cardstock:  Neenah Solar White
  • Stamps:  Tulip Stamp Set; Label Love - both Altenew
  • Inks:  Altenew Inks, Copic Markers, Polychromos pencils
