Selfies in the Sun for Paper Players # 353

Hi Everyone.   Happy Saturday.

It's the fabulous Claire's turn to host our Paper Players challenge this week and she has a theme challenge for us:

There are so many different ways you can take this challenge.  The inspiration behind my card stems from seeing the kids next door jumping in and out of their little paddling pool.  It was so hot I was tempted to go and kick them out so I could go wading myself, but didn't think that would go down very well :-)
It did get me to thinking about the paddling pool that my bestie, Pammie had.  Now, growing up in the North of England we didn't get much chance to use it, but on the days when the tarmac was melting and the concrete too hot to play on, her Dad would bring out the paddling pool and we would spend some blessedly cooler time jumping in and out of the pool.
We WON'T talk about the day that I decided to jump over the rose bushes to the pool - showing off, of course!  Well, I did jump right over the bushes, but jumped just a little too low and managed - I have no idea how - to catch a thorn on the well trimmed bushes..... right between my little toe and the one next to it.  Right in the middle of all that soft, pink, flesh.  I don't think I have to tell you what happened next.  I cried about as loud as a 7 year old could!  Anyway, I HATE rose bushes now :-)
So, how did all of this get me to my card?  Well, the paddling pool of old got me to thinking about some of the beaches that Pammie and I had sunbathed on in Mauritius and in Cape Town and I realized that I had this great set from Stamping Bella that I could use for a card for Pammie.  I combined it with an old SU set - and here's my card:

Pammie... I miss those days in the paddling pool... heck I miss those days when we could actually wear bathers on the beach, too :-)
I hope you will play along with us this week.  If you are looking for some inspiration, you have to look no further than the cards made by our amazing design team:

On a personal note:

Today was another paddling pool day... It was in the 90s and fairly humid.  It was gorgeous sitting under the deck in the screened in porch - in the shade.  There was a slight breeze and it was wonderful.  Eventually it got too hot, and I had to come in and make some cards :-)

We have a pair of cat birds nesting in the garden.  One of them - either the male or the female has obviously dodged a predator as he/she has no tail!!!  That doesn't stop it bathing in our bird bath, flying to get food, or catching insects.  I'm hoping the tail grows back before the migration south.  They are wonderful little birds and I love their mewing call.

I'm glad to say our Orioles are still with us and I watched them feeding babies at the feeder this afternoon.  Mommy Oriole was trying to teach the young one how to feed itself!  It was gorgeous to watch.  In the meantime, I get to see the streaks of gorgeous orange and black of the males:

I'll be back tomorrow with another card and some more photos.  In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.

Love your story as much as your card!! And your bird photos, as always, I love too! We don't have either of those birds up where I am, so very nice to see!

What a great beach scene with those selfie girls, drinks in hand, wonderfully colored! Glad you shared the memories of your time with Pammie...thorns and all 😃 Have a great day ~ Annie

Loved reading your post today Jaydee, as much as looking at your card - so fun to hear you reminisce over the exploits of yourself and Pammie, I'm guessing your card will raise a smile too! Paddling pools are definitely the things that long summer holidays in the UK are made of! Fab card!

Love hearing your stories about adventures with Pammie--quite the duo you two were...and still are, I'll bet! These selfie gals are fabulous and you've colored them perfectly. Love the beach scene, my friend!

Ah,Pammie is going to love her card! What a great story and fun stamps to remember your childhood memories. Your patience to fussy cut the girls must be endless! And this SU set with the plovers (in my mind) is still one of my favorites!

Jaydee, I didn't know birds could regrow their tails. I love that you teach us fun little interesting facts. I sure hope this one makes it South! Beautiful photos, please continue to share them with us!

Jaydee, I just loved your story about your childhood. It made me smile--not the rosebush part! YIKES!
Your card is fabulous! Those bathing buddies are colored perfectly! That fussy cutting is incredible! I love the little beach scene, too! WOW! You rocked my challenge this week! Have a fantastic week, My Friend! XXX

Your posts are always so interesting, Jaydee. Your card is fabulous and what fun to read about your childhood stories. And cat birds? I didn't know there was such a thing. Off to google it now. Thanks for the inspiration, and for teaching me something new today!

Great story - I think we all have a paddling pool experience in our childhood! I really like the way your girls are popped up. The fussy cutting must have taken a while but it was worth it. Lovely card.

What a fun story about you and Pammie! Sounds like such great memories. Love the way you colored the bathing beauties!!!

Have a fun Sunday!
