Hi Everyone. Happy Sunday.
It's the fabulous Claire's turn to host our Paper Players challenge this week and she has a sketch for us:
Now..... I'm a clean and simple gal and Claire is a lots of layers gal. So, I know that my CAS challenges are hard for Claire - and this was a challenge for me :-) But... that's the whole thing about challenges - they are meant to take us out of our comfort zone!
My challenge was to get this many pieces onto a card and still try to make it feel like me. In the end, I decided to go for a striped background as that helped me with the two vertical elements. The two banners were the next challenge, but I found a piece of matching yardstick from the My Minds Eye pack that worked wonderfully with the colors - and the theme of the card. I wasn't sure what to do with the trim piece... and in the end settled for silver thread, which I colored pink with my Copic markers.
Here's a closeup of the banners and the silver thread that I colored pink.
Can you see the little hearts on the banners? I love the way all the colors tie together. The reason I did that is that one of the classes I have completed for my AECP work is Polychromatic.
The class has lots of wonderful ideas on combining colors - and then has the choice of monochromatic. When I saw the pinks - I decided this would make the perfect monochromatic card. Even the vanilla stripes in the paper have a pinkish tone. The only thing that I did that wasn't pink - was the "a heartfelt" part of the sentiment.
For the main part of the sentiment, I die cut "thanks" from a piece of leftover Stampin' Up! glimmer paper and then colored it with my Tombow marker. (I didn't want to use my Copic markers for this, as I didn't want to ruin the nib of my marker on the glitter.)
Here's my complete card:
A pretty, pink confection that adheres to the sketch and still feels like me :-) As you can see, to finish up the card, I added three pink enamel dots!

On a personal note:
Lou and I have just got back from visiting the Carolinas, my birthday treat. I've been to Raleigh, but have never been into the Blue Ridge Mountains, so we visited Asheville. The day we arrived the sun was shining and it was absolutely glorious. A long way from the cold and snow that we left in Minnesota. It was a wonderful few days and we so enjoyed driving around looking at the mountains and eating at wonderful vegetarian restaurants and drinking coffee in fabulous little coffee shops. What a gorgeous place it is. After that we went down to Lake Thurmond in South Carolina for two days. The lake is enormous - and beautiful - and surrounded by thousands of acres of state forest. It was incredibly quite - and incredibly dark - and it felt as though we were in a different world altogether.
Consequently, I haven't had the chance to make any cards this week, but hope to get into my craft room tomorrow. In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.
Hugs
Jaydee

Such an awesome monochromatic card! The soft pinks and the sparkly sentiment are just stunning. Sounds like you had an amazing trip for your birthday and were able to get away from the cold, if even for a bit! Hope you're having a great week ~ Hugs, Annie

This is just wonderful! I love the subtlety of your combination of elements and papers. And I did not know you could colour silver thread with markers, so thanks for that tip too. I'm loving this card!

Jaydee your palette of soft pinks and use of subtle patterns definitely produces a card that has a wonderful CAS feel to it. Love the addition of the glimmer diecut sentiment for a little wow! Your trip sounds like fun - what a wonderful way to celebrate your birthday. Enjoy your week!

This card is beautiful, so soft and subtly colored! I love that you colored the glimmer paper too! And happy you got some down time, visiting us Easterners! Although technically, I am a "north"easterner, it's still nice that you were able to enjoy your trip!

Oh Jaydee, this is so lovely! You would never know that you struggled with the sketch! I absolutely adore all the pink and the stripes. The glitter sentiment is fabulous! You rocked my sketch this week! On a personal note, I would love it if you moved closer to me! How fun! Asheville is such an artsy place. The mountains are so peaceful. So happy you enjoyed your birthday vacation! Sending you a huge hug! XX

Jaydee, leave it to you to take a sketch with a lot of layers and turn in into something monochromatic and CAS. I love the subtle tone-on-tone, and the sparkly sentiment is fabulous. My sister lived in the Blue Ridge mountains in Georgia until recently, and I did a bit of hiking there. What a gorgeous part of the country. If you move to the east coast perhaps we could even get together!
