Hello Beautiful - Happy Mother's Day
25 March 2018
Hi Everyone. Happy Sunday night.
I did manage to get some time in my craft room this afternoon and created some cards for my classes at AECP.
Tonight's card is for the Magical Marker Techniques class. One of the lessons was to use Copic markers to color metallic stickers. Well, that technique is exactly what I needed for tonight's card as I needed gold strips and only had silver! I hadn't ever thought about coloring metallic stickers with my Copics and would have had to go and hunt down some metallic gold strips if it hadn't been for the class!
Altenew are doing a card drive for both Mothers and Fathers who are seniors in shelters or nursing homes. Collection for the cards is from now until April 30th and participants who submit cards are eligible for Altenew gift certificates. You can find the details here.
This cause is close to my heart. My Mother was a matron in a nursing home and would constantly tell me about the seniors who waited every Sunday for a member of their family (particularly children) to visit. Some of the seniors had dementia and had forgotten that their children were either no longer alive, or were in a different part of the country - or on a different continent. She would have very much appreciated the thought behind creating a personal card and having it hand delivered to one of those seniors.
I wanted to use some of the paper from the Reflection paper pack. There are some fabulous papers - and I wanted to use the rose from one of the pages. However, it needed a little jujjing up (random question... how do you even spell that word!!!?) But, you know what I mean. It needed lifting and I thought some gold would work wonders. However, I didn't have any the right size! So, I looked through my old sticker pack and saw some that Pammie had sent me for my birthday a couple of years ago and realized that, even though it was silver, I could color it with my Copic markers and make it gold. Problem solved!
Here's a side by side look at the real color - silver - and the after color - gold - once I had used my markers:
One of the other lessons in the class was to dilute Copic marker ink with rubbing alcohol and use it in the splatter technique. The piece of DSP that I used had green splatters already on the page - but I used a red Copic marker and some rubbing alochol to add some red splatters as well.
I applied the strips, added a sentiment in gold embossing, die-cut the layer with my stitched rectangle and mounted it to a piece of red card stock with some fun foam.
Here's my card:
I finished off the card by stamping "Happy Mother's Day" on the inside of the card in red ink. I will be adding an envelope, and this will be one of the cards that I send off for the card drive.
I'll be back tomorrow with another card. In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.
Hugs
Jaydee

Hi Jaydee,
Would the Altenew Company like cards from Stampin Up? I don't have any stamps from that company.
Always,
Marsha from Apple Valley in CA.

Excellent write-up! This is so gorgeous! I love that you found the gold strip of paper as you used it so expertly in this. GREAT job, Jaydee!
