Peony Bouquet for Casethissketch #263 and AECP

Hi Everyone.

Happy Saturday.  I have a quick post for you tonight.

My most recent class across at Altenew was Impressive Heat Embossing and, once again, I thought I knew a lot about embossing, but still learned things - one of the techniques I used on tonight's card, in fact!

I also went looking for a sketch to inspire me - and found this great one across at Casethissketch  Although, when I went to assemble my card, I had to reverse the sketch in order to get my flower and leaves to work - so I hope they will forgive me !

I decided to go with something totally different tonight - a black card base.  Yes.  Shock.  Horror!  I didn't use a white card base.  The world is about to turn on its axis :-)  Although, I have to admit, putting on a black card base was not what I had in mind.  I was actually prepping the white card base when I realized how gorgeous the flower looked against my black craft mat :-)

I began by inking up the peony with versamark ink onto cold pressed water color paper and then heat embossed the flower with superfine gold embossing powder.

I then took out a bright purple Zig Real Brush marker and used that to add ink direct to paper on the flower and then manipulated the ink with a waterbrush and then left it to dry.

Whilst the flower was drying, I then stamped the base layer of the flowers with green ink and set them aside to dry.  By that point my flower was ready to fussy cut.   Once the leaves were dry, I used the detail stamp and embossed the detail in gold over the base of the leaf.

I heat embossed a couple more leaves - different ones :-) - and then colored them with my Zig markers.  I wanted the two sets of leaves to be a very different color.

Here's a closeup of the leaves:

I needed something to break up all the black space above and behind the flower and leaves and decided it was the ideal time to try something I had learned in the class.  That you can use embossing powder with water!!!  I didn't know that :-)   So, I took my water brush and splattered water across the card base, just letting it do its thing.  Normally, I try really hard to control the splatters but I decided to just go and let the water fall where it will :-)

As soon as I had finished splattering the water, I poured gold embossing powder over the card base and then heat set the embossing powder with a warm heat gun.   I love the result - its incredibly imperfect and I am pleased that I decided to just go.

Here's a closeup of the embossing powder with water:

Who knew that you could do this with water?   Not me!

So, here's my full card.  I stamped the sentiment, added two scored lines above and below the sentiment and arranged the leaves and flower.

This card really is so much nicer in real life.  The photograph washes out the colors a little.  The intense black base really makes the purple, greens and gold pop.   I had such fun in the class and am so glad that it encouraged me to use some old techniques - and learn some new ones.

I'll be back tomorrow with my Paper Players card.  In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.

Hugs

Jaydee
