Stunning Cosmos - Wonderful Day
Warm Wishes for Addicted to CAS #134

Stunning Cosmos - Mother's Day

Hi Everyone.

Quick post for you today!  Here's another card I made for the Altenew Parents Day card drive.  I'll be sharing the Father's Day cards I made with you next week.

One of the classes for the AECP program is Masking Unleashed.

One of the lessons in the class is coloring with negative masking.  That's when you use the space left by your die cut (the negative space) as a mask and you color within that negative space.   This means that everything outside of the negative area is masked.

I decided to use the Stunning Cosmos set.   I stamped the flowers onto my card and then die-cut the flowers onto a piece of spare cardstock.   I placed the negative space from the die cut over the stamped flower and used a sponge to sponge color into the middle of each flower.  Take a look what I mean:

You can see that I stamped the flower with pink and then put a soft layer of pink across the whole flower with the sponge.

You can see the soft pink on the flowers - and I also did the same with the stems.  I die-cut the stems and used the negative space to put the first layer of color down onto the card base.

Once I had the initial, softer, background layer on the flowers, I went in with my markers and added some details to the middle of the flower - and to one side of the stems.

I also did some foiling.  I added some glue to the centers of the cosmos and waited for it to become almost dry.  I then placed a small piece of deco gold foil over the center and burnished it with a bone folder.  That way I was able to get some gold foiling - without having to put it through the laminator.

To finish the card, I added a sentiment - in gold embossing - and some gold splatters.  I also added a gold striped foil piece down the side.

Here's my full card:

One other detail - I used the positive die-cuts for the flowers.  I covered each stamped and colored flower with the positive die-cut and used them as a mask so that I could sponge some blue to the background of the flowers!  So, I really made use of those masks!

I'll be back later with my Addicted to CAS card for this week.  Oh... yeah.... did I tell you were were expecting more snow?  No?  Probably because I am trying to put it out of my mind.  Not only are we expecting snow - but we are expecting up to 13" of the stuff.  Ugh :-)

Hugs

Jaydee

Gorgeous flowers Jaydee! I can tell there's a difference in the coloring using this technique and I think it adds a lot more depth. I really like the gold centers especially!

13 inches of snow, are you kidding? Oh my, Old Man Winter needs to leave you now!! I'll bet your wildlife is struggling and exhausted by now. Wow! You'll be so happy when the weather finally breaks and I hope that's very soon. Have a cozy weekend with some tea to stay warm!
