Birds of a Feather Tulips - Paper Players # 397

Hi Everyone.  Happy Sunday.

It's the fabulous Nance's turn to host our Paper Players challenge this week and it's a color challenge:

So....this color combo was a huge challenge for me.   Crumb cake?!!!  I never use Crumb Cake  and I don't have Lemon Lime Twist - or Calypso Coral :-)  So, I had to go looking through my supplies and find the closest things that I could.

Next.... what stamps to use?   I spent a few minutes - well about 20 in total!  Going through my stash and trying to work out what to use.  In the end, I couldn't make up my mind, so decided that I really needed to get started and inked up both sets of stamps - just to get my mind moving!

I stamped the tulips and stems first and die-cut them.   Then I stamped the bird and die-cut that.  I still wasn't sure which one I was going to use.  So decided to work on the background.    I took a piece of crumb cake and used the watercolor stripes stencil and some ink on my blender brush to create a subtle background.   Once I had done that... I still wasn't sure what to do!  Eventually, I decided to go with the tulips and arranged them on the card front.

The die-cut grass helped to ground the tulips - and provide a place for the sentiment.  I used my Copic markers to add some detail to the flowers and also to the grass.  The finishing touch was to add some gel pen to add a little bit of glimmer

However, once I had assembled the card there just seemed to be an empty space on the right that needed "something". It took me a little while to realize that the bird was just the thing that it needed to fill the space.

Here's my full card:

Pity, I moved the camera whilst I was taking the photo!

I hope you will join us and play along this week.  As usual, if you are looking for some inspiration, you have to look no further than the cards from our amazing design team:

On a personal note:

The last couple of days have been rainy and it has been wonderful to be able to sit in the screened in area under the deck and watch the birds and animals.  So many of them have young right now and they are all busy flying backwards and forwards answering the demanding calls of the babies.  I just love this time of year.

In addition, the flowers are starting to bloom in the front garden and the ferns have grown to their full height in the woodland.   It's this time of the year where I begin to forget about the 6 months of snow on the ground :-)

The Sapsuckers have returned again this year and I was so happy to see them at the feeder.

The catbird is another regular visitor at the feeder and I love listening to the "mew" of their call that gives them their name.

I'll be back tomorrow with another card.  In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.

I sure couldn't tell that you "struggled" a bit with this! It's such a happy card and you nailed the color challenge! I'm with you about the birds. The yard is full of them and I love watching them splashing around in the bird baths (when the kids aren't squealing at them!).

Those tulips are beautiful..the colors so rich! The bird looks perfect there too!

I love how you managed to use both bits of your starters Jaydee - your two ideas came together perfectly. The Copic details and glimmer add just the right amount of detail too.

WHat a pretty the bird AND the flowers! I am intrigued that your sapsuckers come to a feeder...mine just drill holes in my tree!

Jaydee, I love this beautiful card and was delighted this a.m. when I opened my mailbox and found this lovely card! It touched my heart. I love tulips and birds, so this was so special! You would never know that this challenge was difficult for you! I always love the pictures of all your neighbors! Just fabulous! Thank you for thinking of me, My Friend! Have a wonderful week! XX

Oh my, I’m so sorry to have caused you such grief Jaydee! We certainly would never know from this lovely creation. Everything is just perfect. I think my favorite part might be the stenciled crumb cake stripes—fabulous!
