Penny Black Apple for Paper Players #415

Hi Everyone.  Happy Sunday.

It's the fabulous Joanne's turn to host our Paper Players challenge this week and it's a theme challenge:

The one thing I realized..... mmmmmm..... there's a problem here!   Not the clean and simple - that's the easy part for me :-)   BUT... I didn't have any Apple related stamping supplies - at all!   Good job I was doing this card a few weeks in advance!   I was able to find the perfect Penny Black stamp at Ellen Hutson.

I decided that I would use the no-line watercoloring technique for this challenge.   I got out my liquid watercolors and my brushes and went to work.  It took ages to get the coloring where I wanted it to be.  I find watercolor especially hard but Copics were not going to work with this stamp set.  Watercoloring takes patience - not something that I have in abundance!

I used a really good quality watercolor paper.  One that I knew would hold up to me doing lots of putting water on - and taking it off.  I swear this paper was pretty wet by the time I had finished and gotten it to where I wanted it.

When everything was dry, I added some detail to the leaves, the core and stem of the apple and then added some light shading.

Here's a closeup of the watercoloring:

I loved playing with the liquid watercolors.  They felt so much more vibrant than the normal colors I use.  They are going to take a little getting used to, though!

Once the panel was dry, I stamped a sentiment with Brown Stazon and die-cut it with my stitched rectangle die.   I mounted the panel on fun foam and placed it on a woodgrain base from Altenew.

Here's my card:

I hope you will join us and play along this week.  As usual, the design team have some fabulous cards as inspiration for you.

On a personal note:

Well.  It happened.  It snowed AGAIN!  In fact, it was snowing when I woke up this morning - and it was blowing straight-line winds.  I know they are forecasting a "milder" winter for us, but I'm not so sure!

We've changed our our curtains to the deep red and have put out the lighted glass pumpkins and autumnal pillows.  I love closing the curtains on a cold fall night.  It makes the space feel very warm and cozy, especially with the flickering candlelight.    The cats have a wonderful soft bed in front of the fire and they sit there like something out of the "Princess and the Pea".  Layers of cushions and blankets that are warm and soft.  They love it there!

It's been a crazy couple of weeks here and I am hoping that I get some time in my craft room tomorrow.  I have the flu, so may not feel up to it - but I really do need to get my hands inky!

I'll be back later in the week if I do get to make some cards.  In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.

Hugs

Jaydee
