HI Everyone.
Happy Sunday.
It's the fabulous Anne-Marie's turn to host our Paper Players challenge this week and she has a sketch for us:
You all know how layers scare me these days, BUT... I must say, AM was very constrained as there are only four - and I can handle that :-)
I purchased this fabulous Penny Black set from Ellen Hutson when they were having a 20% off sale. Tea is my drink of choice - other than Chardonnay :-) Some of you have already heard this story.... but I have to start every morning with my Irish Breakfast tea. A whole pot of it! Tea for me has to be strong, brewed in a china pot and served in a china cup with cold milk. Here's an interesting piece of trivia - did you know that you could separate the classes in England by how they poured their tea? Yep, whether you put milk in first - or afterwards - really was a class thing!
Now.. .where was I? Oh, yes! Tea. I can blame my father for my love of strong, black teas. None of this white and green stuff for me. Dad adopted the habit of strong dark teas after he was stationed in Assam prior to shipment out to Burma in 1940. I didn't realize until long after my father had died that I was addicted to the same strong teas.
This card is for my bestie, Pammie - who shares a love of tea and the whole process of "high-tea" in the afternoon. Little finger sandwiches - no crusts, warm scones, rich strawberry jam and gorgeously, rich, decadent and ooey-gooey Devonshire Clotted Cream. So, when I saw this Penny Black set about tea and friendship - how could I resist it? This card is in the post winging its way to England.
For my card, I found some very old - long-ago retired - Stampin' Up! DSP. The soft peach roses were perfect for the layers of my card and matched with the spotted paper that came in the same set. There was something about the dots and the roses that reminded me of vintage tea cups.
For the layer across the top - I used the same DSP. That way I kept to the layout, but didn't detract from the patterns.
Here's my card:
The sentiment on the inside is just as fabulous - sorry that it isn't in focus!
I hope you will join us and play along this week. The design team have the usual assortment of fabulous cards as inspiration:
I'll be back later in the week with another card. In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.
Hugs
Jaydee
Card recipe:
- Stamps: Penny Black - Cup of Tea
- DSP: Stampin Up
- Card stock: Neenah Solar White
Jaydee, I’m glad you weren’t overwhelmed with the layers this week. I tried to scale it back Haha! Such a lovely mix of patterns and sentiments on your card. I enjoyed reading your post about tea. I also enjoy tea (and Chardonnay coincidentally) but know I have a LOT to learn about how to brew a “proper” cup. Devonshire Clotted Cream sounds like something I need to become familiar with, as well. It just sounds decadent!

What a beautiful card, Jaydee! I'm a tea drinker too, though I don't do so as properly as you. So milk in the cup first, or tea? I love the patterned papers, and both the sentiments too, inside and out!

Hi Jaydee,
I ♥ your whole conversation about tea. My Sister is a tea drinker, as is my husband, I'm firstly a coffee person, but when I want to stop the world and get centered I make myself a big pot of tea in a real teapot, and I cover the teapot in a down cozy I once bought at a thrift store (would make a great hat in a cold winter climate but looks pretty strange I bet) - I also heat a cloth rice bag and place that under, keeps the tea burning hot even after an hour! I only drink it in a real teacup(fromm my Mother in law) and saucer. It brings me back to earth when everything around me is super busy. thanks for your pretty card to say that. Love love the soft paper and the sentiments are wonderful. I may have to whip up a tea card for my Sister after being inspired by you!

Lovely stamps and great sentiments. I too love really strong black teas and I too make a full pot to begin the day. Thanks for sharing your beautiful card - the DSP is lovely.

I enjoy tea too.

What a delightful card, Jaydee! As a tea drinker myself, I adore the sentiments, both on the outside and the inside of the card. And what an awesome bit of trivia about telling the classes based on how they poured their tea! LOVE it!

Oh Jaydee! This is so pretty! You are so right about the paper conjuring up visions of bone china cups and high tea. It is fabulous! That tiny tea cup just at the bottom of the sentiment is a genius touch. I'm with you about using a lovely cup for my tea but I like mine Earl Grey, black and so you can see the bottom of the cup although all the rest of the family like theirs like you - gumboot tea.

I love the delicate pastels and roses on your papers Jaydee - perfect for a dainty tea cup. I'm with you too - strong tea in nothing but a china cup! A lovely sentiment too and perfect for a tea-drinker.
