HI Everyone. Happy Sunday.
It's the fabulous LeAnne's turn to host our Paper Players challenge and it's a theme challenge - and what a theme :-)
April 6th is American Tartan Day. I have to tell you, I didn't know it was Tartan Day. However, through my Mother's side of the family, I am part of the Clan Donald, so was very pleased to be able to highlight Tartan for our challenge this week. However..... I didn't have any MacDonald Tartan paper :-). This particular tartan is my favorite MacDonald Tartan:
In case you are interested, you can find the other MacDonald tartans on this page . You can also learn more about the MacDonald's at this link.
Let's get to my card :-). I decided to go ALL IN ON PLAID. Yep..... ALL IN. I tried to make a clean and simple card with plaid but decided - just go for it! So, this marks 3 out of the last 4 cards that do not have a white base :-)
I used some Lawn Fawn Plaid paper that I got free with my scrapbook.com order and paired it with a brand new die that I got for my birthday. It's a wonderful circles die from The Stamp Market. This isn't a company I had heard of before, so I can thank blame Jennifer McGuire for introducing The Stamp Market to me. I visited the site and was blown away by the clean and simple design of the site- it really does have such a fun, fresh, modern look. Also, my order was shipped off to me lickety-split, so I was super impressed.
I used three different tartan papers from the Lawn Fawn pack and ran them through my Big Shot with the circles die. That mean that I could make three different cards by mixing up the circles and die-cut frames.
I then took another new die that I got from The Stamp Market and die-cut it in Neenah Solar White and tartan. That way I could take out the "hi" from the middle of the tag and replace it with tartan.
Here's a closeup:
I used the white "hi" as a backer for my plaid one so that it had a little height and stands up from the tag. The hardest part was remembering to not lose the tittle. It's TINY!
Here's my full card:
It's a totally un-Jaydee card! But I was really pleased with the way it came out and..... LeAnne can't say that I didn't make plaid front and center on the card :-)
The design team have created some beauties for your inspiration. I hope you will check them out:
On a personal note:
Oh.... it is going to get to 64 degrees tomorrow... Oh! Yeah! However, we do have the mid-30s as a high - AND SNOW - in the forecast for the middle of the week, but I am going to enjoy the birds singing and the warmer temps tomorrow :-)
Talking about birds - this guy was hanging around in our yard. I swear he was being dived bombed by every Blue Jay in the neighborhood - they came in a swarm from all over the place to make him feel unwelcome :-)
Because of the screens on the window, it was pretty hard to try and get a shot of him. I just couldn't get him into focus, but this is the best I had :-)
He spent about two hours in the garden and finally settled on the bird box and watched for lunch. I had to go back to work so wasn't sure if he caught anything in the end.
I'll be back with another card tomorrow. In the meantime, warm hugs and prayers for those of you who need a little lift tonight.
Hugs
Jaydee

I'm playing catch up this week Jaydee but just wanted to say how much I love this tartan mix and how you've used them in your circle die - very clever! Cool that you have found your family tartan too.

A fabulous plaid card, Jaydee! I loved the link you provided to the tartans. My undergrad degree was from a college affiliated with a Presbyterian church. It was steeped in Scottish tradition. Ceremonies were complete with pipers. LOVED the music - loved the kilts! And I LOVE your card!

I LOVE your plaid creation, Jaydee! Our MacKay plaid is a pretty one, too, but I didn't have one of those either, although the one I used is pretty close! Just needed some blue! But no matter, your creative use of those plaid circles and dies is amazing! Fun and fresh!
